Hi guys.

Right well as you all know im scrapping the car.

But the plate on it i think will be worth abit of money aswell, MIL 5429.

So im wondering, how do i get this off the car and keep it in retention for mysefl to then sell on?

The car has not mot no tax and no insurance and i havent sent the v5 away to say its being scrapped yet, so can i still get the plate off the car and if i can how?

You need to apply for a retention certificate from the DVLA, but since your car has no MOT, you won't be able to do that. TBH, the plate is only worth around £250, it's a old Northern Ireland plate.

ive heard that mil 5 plates go for a bit more as it looks like mills, i got a price ages ago of about £540

250 is still better than nothing matey!

Well send a query away, was just checking incase any of you guys new.

cheers

There is absolutely NO point in wasting your time doing that since your car has no MOT and isn't likely to. You can NOT retain the plate from a vehicle with no MOT as I have already said.

no bother.

So basically the dvla will now get this plate back then.

ahhhhhhhh ok.

Cheers buddy:D!

i am probably wrong but me mate has had a plate for years off one of his old cars and has just put it on his new one!

dan.:)

Wouldn't waste your time mate, as Funglybumpkin says its a bog standard old Northern Ireland plate you can buy direct from the DVLA for £99

so you may be able to get the plate then

With no MOT or TAX, the odds aren't favourable.

Sorry to say but the plate on Craig's car isn't worth anywhere near that. All 4 numbers are different. This will reflect heavily in the price. Even MIL5882 is £600, so with that in mind, max would be around £300 - £400.

like i said, im sure i got quoted £600-£650, may be worth persuing, even if its just a phone call

agree not a hope with no mot

just found one MIL 4285 or something or other for £785

wont let me copy the link though????

Ive send a qwuery away to the dvla anyways got to wait a few days now.

But its 135 to retain the plate so i might not even bother.

Yes......

......and no! It depende on when the MOT expired. If it is comparitively recently you MAY (or may not; at DVLA's discretion) still be able to put the plate on retention. Although I cannot for the life of me remember how long you get. I do know that you can still retain a plate for up to 6 months after the tax dics has expired.

Spelling mistake......

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

its now within 12months of tax running out mate, had a look on there site.

hopefully they can come back with some good info on retaining the plate

I know Bird had to lose the "300" plate on his old blue Zed, because it went to the scrapper with it still on, because of no MOT etc.
