A few weeks ago after enjoying the car for two days I parked it on the drive next door to say getting the ramps out to put it in the garage. The intention was to get some video of a tunnel run and some rapid driving so everyone could hear the single turbo. The sunday morning came after a night of rain and I went out and the car started and ran for about 30 seconds but struggled, belched out smoke and died and wouldn't restart at all!!

Anyway after much searching the problem was the MAF, it had filled with water somehow and I mean the box section with all the electrics in. It's spent the last week drying out in the house, I put it back on today and the car started after 2-3 turns and runs ok with the occasional back fire.

My question is will the water damaged the maf or will it be ok? I assume maybe the back fire is due to the fact its been stood outside in the wet for 2 weeks and needs a drive especially as the engine was flooded or could the maf be not quite right?

I have had a few replies about buying a maf but don't want to if it's not needed.

Electronics and water just do not mix and usually the solder joints holding the components together corrode where it meets the component. Can you not borrow a MAF just to try it out to see if there is something else playing up.

ant do u wana try mine?

That would be good as I have so much going on at the moment I haven't got time to get to you. I guess I can compare how it runs with both on, if better with yours then I will change it, if the same then she needs a run to clean it out after the floofing and standing.

ok. well let me know then, u have my num, txt me ur address or something if u wana

can you not try it just unplugging the MAF? to see if it runs better. You won't get the same power but it should let it run freely. I had the the same problem with my Alfa after driving in a night of severe rain and going through a couple of minor floods on the road where the water splashed up on to the car. I let it dry out but was it still ended up faulty. Cheapest I seen for a MAF for it was £70-£80 for a Bosch one. I managed to track down an aftermarket one for £36 brand new and it works fine.
