The car is a 1990 auto tt and when cold it fires up OK, runs correctly and warms up to temp. However when pulling awayin normal auto mode there is a lot of vibration through the car as the gearbox tries to make the first change up. It feels like the oil is thick or the mountings are worn. When the car has covered about 5 miles all this disappears and the box changes as it should. Any thoughts?

Prop bearing or gearbox mount, though usually the prop bearing causes the vibration

Just had similar symptoms on mine , just a little harsher and happened whenever a bit of power was applied , that was the centre bearing .

All sorted now and as smooth as silk :hyper::hyper:

id say its the cold morning , i get it on mine for a while , not like and the only thing that vibrate for some reason is the hazzard light plastic button , i think shes just cold but then its just a guess

Good thinking, but why does the vibration disappear when warmed up?

when the rubber has warmed up its able to find its own centre so then runs true

could be both, if you can afford too, i would replace both.

Replacing the centre bearing without doing the mount may produce the same symptoms as before, but at least a visual check of the gearbox mount should give you an idea.

In one of jefftt's posts there is a pic of a new and knackered gearbox mount to compare.
