I've just done a few jobs on the car, new alloy rad, painted cam covers, new thermostat etc put it all back together and refit all the electrical connections and now the car won't start.I have run it through data scan and no faults show up . The temp sensor is a bit cracked and damaged could this stop the engine starting ? The engine turns and there is a strong smell of fuel out of the exhaust. HELP!!!

It turns the engine but does not even cough or splutter. Then the garage stinks of fuel from the exhaust after about 10 seconds of turning. The car has not been run for over twelve months but has been housed in a large damp free garage and never missed a beat before i got my little grubby hands on it :o

I have just redone mine as it had exactly the same problem. It turned out to be the cam angle sensor located at the front of the engine on the right hand side as you look at it, it is round with a multi plug in it. If you take the plug out, clean all the connectors in the plug and on the sensor it should sort the problem out. If it not connected properly you will get no ignition spark or fuel.

OK, so working back from the plugs.....

Can't see it being ALL 6 coil-packs at once, so the first thing to check would be the PTU.

Of course check ALL of your electrical connections on the coil-packs and both on the PTU.

For it not to fire at all it's gota be something substantial, hence the PTU. Failing that then you could be looking towards the MAF, but I'd of thought that you would of got it firing if not running rough though even with a knackered MAF, but again also check all of your electrical connections.

There's a start anyway

Still no joy  Cleaned all the connectors and made sure they were on correctly.Car still turns over and there is still the smell of fuel out of the exhaust. Is there an easy way to check for spark ? Could the PTU fail from it just being sat there ?

Have you checked and re-checked the connections/wires to the ptu as I had a similar prob when I did my cam covers and the cables liked the exact position they have been in fofr years...lol

As i said when i rebuilt mine i put it all back together and it just would not start. I cleaned the cas plug and pins with wd40, then again with circuit board cleaner and again with thinners. None of this made any difference. In the end i bought a modeling file from a model shop, filed the internal connections in the plug and used sandpaper for the pins in the cas. I then put it back together again, turned the key and it fired straight up. It took me two days of messing around and one phone call to z world to finally cure the problem with something more than just fluids. I found it frustrating because i thought they were cleaned properly but apparently they weren't! I'm definately going to keep hold of my file now for the electrical connectors!

I think i have cleaned them enough but after reading this may give it another go.Can you remove the CAS by just unbolting it so i can clean it better or will it uncoil like a box of watch springs LOL :D

Might see if i can get some new connectors.

I didn't remove the cas i just unplugged it and cleaned it while it was still on the engine. It doesn't have to be a modelling file, just something like that which is small enough to do the job. It was Jeff from z world that was describing how difficult it is to clean them, you only need one not to connect properly and the whole thing doesn't work.
