compare to my mates m3? its a E36 standard m3

i know the m3 is lighter, not been in it yet he had just got it ( i know a load of ya are gonna be biased)

i am not going to race or anything just wondered how they stack up?

have no idea. But im very intrested in how mines would to a TT manual against an e46 m3.lol. also the new audi TT.lol.

Hopefully some wizkid will be along soon:D!

i think tho a TT auto should sit with an e36m3 to be honest, be quicker from the line.

If the m3 has been properly cared for could be difficult.

I raced an 07 plate m3 upto about 140 in my old z and it was neck and neck all the way :)

Is the M3 an evo or the earlier 3.0 one? Its a tough one, but having had both a 300zx TT as an auto, and then a manual and now owning an M3 evo i feel I can give a good comparision!

Basically the M3 loves to rev, so 5k+ and your laughing plenty of power and being lighter this helps. Where as the 300zx TT develops much more torque so it is certainly quicker mid range.

With an all out drag race with a manual 300zx and the M3 i would say that they would both be pretty much even up to 120mph and the 300zx would begin to pull away due to the extra torque. However, with the auto, just too slow of the line to be honest, great when moving. As for rolling starts, all depends on gears (or more importantly what gear the auto 300zx is in!). At 30mph in an auto flooring it will cause it to sit in 2nd and lumber through the rev range, where as at 20-25 it'll go into first and go like a rocket.

However, cornering and braking im affraid the M3 has got the 300zx licked the brakes are so responsive and the M3's handling (even mine with 100k suspension on it) is just fabulous. New shocks to go all round mine so that will help things!

Having said that the M3 is 6 years newer (but had done 30k more) than my 300zx so its perhaps not a completly fair test.

What is fair to say though is that when the M3 was brand new it was certainly compared against a great many cars, one of which was the NSX in the "usable super car" comparision, which the result was fascinating basically the same apart from more people can ride in better comfort in the M3 than in the NSX.

(obviously the NSX is far prettier and the one i would want, but they cost lots of cash!)

A lot has been said about these 2 cars and my 300 will piss a M3. But mine is a bit quicker than standard but like I said I have pissed off 2 M3's a 2000 model and a 52 plate.....totally, so a standard 300 TT should beat one. Who knows? :D even. who cares :rofl::rofl: Its just an every day Beemer.

ive never had any issues pi55ing on any m3 owners flames LOL

not tried the new V8 one but i would imagine it would be alot closer

Well the New BMW although 70hp more powerful weighs in at 1700kgs for the 2door Coupe! So with out Zeds (Stock) being a 100kgs lighter that extra power will do nothing special for it!

Im pretty sure the old M3 (E46) is faster than the new M3 (E90)

sorry, but if i had an auto i wouldnt race anything like an M3,

you would need a manaul TT to be ebven thinking about it!

im sure a manual TT would keep up with it,

the Z would have much more tuning potential i would say, so if yout talking stage 1 mods ona Z i would say it would beat an E36.

not sure about the new ones tho :o

Ok......so 300zx tt should defeat an e46 m3.

Think with the new m3 being a beast 4l v8 the 300 may struggle.

Anybody have any ideas how a 300zx TT would do against say the new audi tt?

hmmm the power is quite raw in those m3's and the throttle response is very quick.

mid range and rolling start my zed could keep up and pass an m3 e36 and e46 but from stand still in an auto? no chance, a manual would be close

the new v8 one is a very quick machine and my zed would not keep up. the new TT's are quite fast aswell, certainly felt quicker than many of the stock zeds iv been in but i think that is just down to the lightness of the car.

What are you talking about? The auto and manwell Zeds are pretty much exactly the same performance. The only time you cant talk about real speed difference is between NA v's TT

WTF is stage 1??? Please for the love of god tell me lol

There is about 0.5 of a sec differace from the manual to the auto. But with an auto you would have a constant time. where as the manual it would vary due to driver error.

As i always state it is down to the driver. There was a driver at a track the other day in a carera gt and all he could get is 6secs to 60mph and it should be doing it in 3 lol!!!

Stage one is chip, boost exhaust and filter :)

For the E92 is either 4.7 or 4.9 seconds to 60 depending on gearbox selection...

Did no one read my earlier post? Having owned both there isnt much in it! Depending on driver things can be alot different, i found the 300zx faster midrange but all out drag race, would be very close between the two.

Both have the same 5.6 seconds 0-60 (e46 m3 for comparision is 5.3, the earlier 3.0 E36 M3, 286bhp 92-95 is about 6.0 according to the book)

No

Also a factor is how well maintained the cars. As there are alot of tied motors out there on both sides.

I bet most cars now with a half decent driver will only be getting around 6 secs maybe more??

I've had an e46 m3 try and have a go and I made him look silly, although zed is not stock. As for a new tt I wouldn't say I had a race but some dude followed me in one getting right up my arse so I dropped her down 2 gears hoping he would follow suit but the sod just turned off lol

Who cares what is faster........ M3 or a 300???

I know what i would go for!!! LOL!!!

Al.

mate of mine has a stock 07 BMW M3, did a quarter mile (Santa pod) in 13 seconds reaching a top speed of 103MPH, someone compare that to a stock TT 300 in the subbed section, (if there is such a thing as a stock TT300 now lol)

Is it just me or is that not that impressive all things considered??

A stock zed is around mid 13's to low 14's at around 104mph iirc

Again though i bet a proper driver would be in the low 12's for the beemer /????

Drove my Brothers M3 E46 03 plate last year and it felt just like my 300 When it was stock... Had all the DSG or whatever it's called on them disabled as you can hear the revs change at the press of the button. Bloody lovely car tho the BMW and if I had to get rid of my 300 then this is what i would have. Both brilliant car's IMHO but bare in mind the M3 has 12 years on my 300ZX! Just goes to show how well engineered the 300ZX is.

depends, gotta remember to really understand how quick that is you need to compare these things to normal everyday bog standard cars,

IE: a vectra sri (well me other mates anyway lol) does 0 - 60 in 13 seconds, so 0 - 103 in 13 seconds is pretty quick. my old pug 406 2l turbo, used to do 0 - 60 in around 9 seconds, so was looking at around 70 -72 mph @ 13 seconds.

a vectra sri (well me other mates anyway lol) does 0 - 60 in 13 seconds

13 seconds? My 1.2 Fiat Punto used to do it in 9.5 secs! Standard, and very well looked after, but running without an air filter

my last vectra (gls model) did 0-60 in under 10 secs............... and the sri dependent on if its the v6 or 2.0 would supposedly be a tad quicker ..........

Thats why i sold my vectra. took about 11 sec to 60 for a 2l 16v

sounds like hes a bad driver then lol, his is a 2.2lt one.
