Thinking about putting UK 8.5J's on the front as well as the back. Anyone think this should or can not be done with 245/50 tyres?

Many thanks, Alex

I've got 17" 245/45 on the front of mine (Skyline GTR wheels).

No rubbing, except maybe on lock going over a bump.

Tram-lines like a biatch but look great :D

i have 8.5" rims on the front with 235 45 tyres and its fine, no rubbing etc

Shouldn't be a problem - although on 16 inch rims you'd need 245/45/16 tyres not 50s.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Say Richard,

I thought the UK fronts were 225/50/16's so just curious, why would I need 45's on the front? What difference would a lower profile make?

Cheers, Alex

the uk fronts may be that... but as you are putting uk rears on the front you'll need uk rear tyres to keep the rolling radius the same :)

or, I suppose the other option is to put 245/50's on both the front and rear correct?

In theory; yes.......

......however the idea of changing aspect ratios is also to keep the rolling circumference and overall wheel diameter as close as possible to the OEM fitment. That way the speedo, ABS and other speed related sensors remain unaffected.

Stock front size is 225/50/16; so if you increase the tyre width you need to drop the profile (apsect ratio) to keep the diameter the same. Hence 245/45/16. Similarly if you upgrade to 17 inch rims; the 225/50 would become 225/45/17 and 245/45 would become 245/40/17. And so on with 18s at 225/40/18 and 245/35/18 etc etc.

BTW; did you receive the pics yesterday mate?

Richard,

Yes, got the pictures thanks, will PM you.

About the wheels, totally agree but the stock jap import were 225/50/16's all round hence my question. I'm simply proposing to make it 245/50/16's all round thus everything should be ok right.

Cheers buddy - reply sent!

As for your question, I don't know but I'll do the nerdy maths to see what the diameters/circumferences for comparison are:

Stock front: 225/50/16 = 225mm x 50% = 112.5mm = 4.429 inches. 16+(2x4.429) = 24.85 inches ground to top of wheel. Rolling circumference = Pi (3.14159) x 24.85 = 78.09 inches

Stock rear: 245/45/16 = 245mm x 45% = 110.25mm = 4.34 inches. 16+(2x4.34) = 24.68 inches. Circumference therefore = 77.53 inches. Close enough to match the front.

245/50/16 = 245 x 50% = 122.5mm = 4.82 inches. 16+(2x4.82) = 25.65 inches diameter. That's almost an inch taller than standard wheels; the circumference would therefore be 80.58 inches. That's 2 to 3 inches more than the standard fittings.

That's the extent of my knowledge:nelson: I don't really know what effect, if any, the extra 2-3 inches travel will make. It will definitely alter the accuracy of the speedo reading though!
