hi im new to the car i got a fresh import last night , drove over 400 miles to get it , but i havnt got a clue why

1, its in kph which is a pain in the arse at the mo ( i understand this but is it as simple as taking the old kph out and pick up a mph of ebay and replace it , the car is a 1996)

2, not sure why i have to wait for the little computer to count down till it hits zero to take the key out , its very annoying (what is it for etc)

3 and the power and hold button

if anyone can shed light on the situation it would be great thanks.

Hello and welcome.

1) You can get a MPH converter from ebay

2) Im guessing that is a turbo timer you are on about to wait for the turbos to cool down

3) Power button is to increase revs on the Auto Box and go into 4th i think, the hold im guessing is to hold it in gear.

Yes, deffo turbo timer. However, you should be able to remove the key  Engine should remain running even if you lock the car up and walk away. That's how most timers I've seen are setup...

power button holds the revs up when slowing down etc to allow a faster accelleration-- sort of a sports mode (not that its needed) it will go into 4th gear with power turned off as long as overdrive is on.... Overdrive keeps the gears to 1,2,3 .

so im i rite in saying that power mode is always on unless you turn it off, i was told it was more of a eco button

yeah defo turbo timer, but how does it stop you taking the key out? there must be an electrical device to hold it??

also do you need a turbo timer, or more to the point is it needed

No, you don't need it. Personally think they are a bit of a silly gimmick. If you plan ahead, you do not need to use one of these and have the engine sat there idling for 5 minutes. It's best to drive the car off boost for the last 5 mins of your journey. A MUCH more efficient and healthy way to cool your turbos down.

i was told it is more for racing drivers etc , i only drive up to about 100mph give or take whould they need cooling to be honest, also is there a setting on them so you can take your key out etc

Turbos only need cooling down if they've been on hard boost. The reason they need to cool down is due to the oil that's circulating through them. If a turbo engine is simply turned off after hard use, very hot oil sits in the oil lines and around the turbos. This isn't good, cooler fresh oil needs to have been circulated. The best way to do this is to drive off boost. You're not going to be driving at 100mph and then suddenly decided to come to a halt and turn the engine off. So a bit of advance thinking is that's needed.

Turbo timer is pretty useless, unless you're in the habit of running around the neighborhood at high revs, boosting all the way, shutting down the car and leaping out.

After a hard run, just let the car recover by running around at reasonable RPMs without laying on any boost, or if you can't do that, just leave it running for 30 secs to a minute before shutting it off. This basically accomplishes what a turbo timer does: allows oil and water to continue circulating through the turbocharger to lessen the chance of "coking," the hard black deposits that form on an overheated shaft or bearings when oil burns on them. Driving off boost is infinitely better for the engine AND turbos than having a turbo timer.

as im new to zeds , im guessing when you state being on boost all the time , whould this mean pressing that power button.

No, the power button is for the autobox. 'Boost' is another word for the positive pressure the turbo produces. You'll see a boost gauge in your instrument cluster. This tells you whether the turbos are in vacuum or spooling and to what pressure. To drive off boost or 'in vacuum', you need to keep the needle under '0'. Which is pretty easy to do if you take it steady.

Sounds like you're new to turbo charged engines, not just Zs. ;)

yeah mine is a 1996 and i dont see any thing like that on my dash board , all i see is temp , kph , rev and under rev it looks like oil or something , with random numbers. and petrol gauge , and a turbo thing near my leg. iam new very so everything you say is appreciated

96 will be a series 4 then. Nice. Rare year that one. These came minus the boost gauge unfortunately. So might be wise getting an aftermarket one fitted maybe.

What's this 'turbo thingy' near your leg then??

Just see some pictures of your car, and take a look at the turbo timer.

Not the nicest bodykit in the world, but the car looks very very clean and I love the wheels!

very nice. Is that the one that was on ebay?

Looks like its one bought from WRX imports.

Looks nice and clean, most there cars always come with some gadgets straight from japan.
