Ok I've established it's not the coil pack or the plug, as i've swapped them both. Any idea what is causing this. It started out intermittent but it's now not firing at all.

Looking from the front it's the middle cylinder, right bank

Have you checked the connector isn't gunked up, or broken? Loom? Maybe PTU?

I know that's not much help, but I'm sure many other folk will be here soon for ya pal! :-)

Doesn't appear to be broken, however that says nothing. can the PTU effect one cylinder only

Have you checked that the injector is actually triggering, I think you can hold a long screwdriver against the Injector and put your ear to the handle end and you should hear it clicking... Other than that I'd suspect PTU. If you can prove all of this is OK it's compression test and leak down test time... Oh and be careful around the Injector connector as the have a habit of falling apart if they're really old...

cylinder N04 not firing...

could be a number of things.

if you have a multi meter then you can check the resistance of PTU,Coil pack and injector on that cylinder. If this all checks out then next step would be checking CAS by removing it and rotating by hand to see if the spark plug and injector is firing.

check out the online workshop manual for resistance check on each item.

the injector connection would be the next thing to check.

they get corroded badly.

this is how i found my fault, a long screwdriver on top of the injector try a working cylinder first you should hear it clicking away, now try the suspect one to see if you get the same sound, injector connectors are very touchy and get corroded.

yea id try the injector conenction,

there are things called noid lights,

their onluy a fiver. you put them in the injector connector, and it flashes if the signal is getting there.

but saying that, there could be corrossion on there that says ok to the noid, but if not seated 100% on the injector, with good connection wont fire the injector.

give the injector a good clean, get as much gunk off there as you can & try again.

sometimes tho its so hard to get out & clean, i had to buy 6 new ones (7quid each)

Ok, The injector seems to be firing (i can hear a clicking noise anyway)

can anyone tell me if this is correct There is a plug with 3 male connectors but only 2 female ones connecting to it, I've stripped it back to see if anything is broken but nothing.

which one? cant make out from the pic, can you circle it?

I've pulled the coil pack and checked to see if it's sparking and it is, I'm suspecting the injector. I can here a tick but's quieter than the other 5, Can't get the bloody thing off though

Think I've fooked it

Took the connectors off the PTU to give them a clean and it now won't start at all.

Any help would be appreciated.

Had the injector connection of and gave it a good clean. Hasn't cured it.

just becasue youve cleaned the terminal doesnt mean its clean clean,

there is often all the green gunk inside the plastic bit, where the wire goes from the loom to the connector.

i broke my connector apart, then used speaker spades on the injectors.

BUT that doesnt work, as you have to have a real good connection for them to work.

had to ohm test the connection to check it was working

If you want to see if the injector is working.Put the ignition on to prime the fuel rail, remove the injector and spark plugs and power up the injector using some wire and a 9v battery whilst shining a torch into the combustion chamber. You should see and smell the fuel being injected into the cylinder.

yea,

could ohm test it aswel, bit easier. but dont supose will say if its injecting.

id go down the connection route before the injector itself

Cracked it :nana2::dance::nana2:

As said it was a dodgy connector, I have a new one on the way but in the mean time I cut the old one off gave it a good clean and a soak in vinegar. Soldered it back on and fannies your aunt, firing on 6 again.

Cheers to all for all the pointer :duffer:

connector on its way Tango hope the bank holiday dosent slow it down get to you.

Cheers, I think my bodge job should hold out for a while. I may get myself another 5 from you and change the lot and be done with it.

Have to wait until spondooly day tho :D

ok i'd better get some stock in before everyone else starts ordering them...

...or maybe not lol

yea thumbs up on the connecrtors,

solved my issue.

they are a bit potchy to get on, due to the awkwodness of the 300 lol

use a ohm meter to test they are seated properly after connected

OK I've put a new injector connector on and thought that solved it, but it seems to start and run OK from cold, and will continue to run OK until you turn off the engine. However once you start it again it misses on 1 cylinder again.

After 5 mins it then kicks in again and runs fine.

Any ideas

did you clean the PTU correctly?

isit the same cylinder which is missing, that you put the new connector on?

i had a problem on an old car, was the coilpack, the symptom was when cold was fine,

but when warm up they lose the resistance, and fail.

when they cool down again they work fine.

I've put a new connector on the injector. There is a spark so coil pack seems OK (i have a spare, so will change it anyway just to eliminate that)

Doing the screwdriver test there is no clicking coming from the injector.

I'm thinking maybe the PTU or PTU connectors are at fault, I gave it a prod with a screwdriver just to make sure of a good fit, and the car cut out.

Any idea how much a series 2 PTU and 2 X connectors runs at
