Dear 300ZX ,

I am interested in buying either a 300zx or a Mitsubishi GTO. Can anybody help me? If I was to go and test drive a 300zx what are the most important things to look out for?

I am sorry to ask questions that so many of you will have answered before. I really appreciate your help!

1..smoke

2..no boost if tt

3..be carefull of rot on early uk models and ime sure once you drive a good twin turbo you'll be hooked

Beware - they are serious money pits! I mean it!

which zeds or GTO????

i have had both got the gto now, may be getting another zed twin turbo ....

had my zed over a year and only problem i had was a new clutch so thats down to normal wear and tear.

had the GTO for 3 years, output shaft gone 800 pounds and thats it, touch wood.

pro's of the zed and GTO

reliable if looked after best to buy within the club.

GTO is 4 wheel drive may be heavier definatly not slower excellent traction from start to finish just what you need especially in the wet.

you can have ALOT more fun in the zed as you can choose to either go straight or side ways.

people say the zed is hard to work on but GTO traders say the zed is harder to work on.

GTO can be more forgiving due to the permanant 4 wheel drive, but that means if your output shaft for the transfer box goes that 800 pounds.

both have their own common problems question is which do you feel gives you most comfort, safety reliability and smiles.

no Doubt the interior in the Zed is the best ever.

both can be tuned to over 400 bhp with standard engine.

i got a GTO your more than welcome to have a passenger ride in it.

Thanks very much for all your help and advice, I especially the value advice that warns me against buying either. ;)

Can't speak about the GTO, but the Zed is a money pit.

If you're happy driving a shed Zed that simply runs then fine, but getting & keeping a really good one costs money.

Not suggesting they are unreliable though, but they need looking after.

I don't think they are over suitable as an everyday drive, although some do use them like that.

Best as a 2nd car to drive & enjoy only when you want to and not when you need to....

IMO:)

i would go for the 300zx...why....i have had 3

i have allso had the gto.great car but go for the 6 speed box. the 5s are shit.

best of luck mate.

Well getting used to the zed for a few years and then jumping into a gto I found it to be a lot more cramped than the zed so consider that if you're 6'2" or higher.

I think the zed is a better looker inside and out but I like the width of a gto.

At the end of the day they're both big, heavy, quick, have problems etc. so your best bet is to take up indians offer and go drive it and same for the zed if someone would be kind enough to offer and then come to your own conclusion because everyone here will say the zed is better ofcourse and I also think it is. lol

I would say a shed Z would cost you more money to keep going !

Hi matey... I live in Kent and I'll extend the same offer as Indian, you're welcome to a passenger ride in my 300... Although it's not quite standard, also there's a meet at the Halfway House on the 6th August, there'll be a few there and you'll get an idea about the club as well....

I forgot to mention the most important thing, i do over 10,000 miles in my GTO every day, its my daily driver so was my 300zx, so both can be reliable.

dont believe the myth that GTO are more unreliable than 300zx cus they can both make you in debt quickly.

PS, I'm in and around Heathrow next Thursday if you're about.

never as im going to get another zed maybe next year lol, its your lucky day, i have a day off on that day. lol.

I've had my zed for about 7 weeks now and as much of a pain in the arse as it's been i wouldn't get rid of it. I'm out doing something to improve it/fix it most days but then i bought a sheddy one cause I wanted a project car to work on oh and i use mine EVERY day as it's my only car. I'd say come along to the next Halfway house meet if you can be a good chance for you to see what they are all about.

I to considered a GTO but after owning a fast GT4 i wanted something that was a bit more "risky" ie something with out the security of 4WD. If you're anywhere near Southend in Essex you're welcome to come for a drive in mine to see what you think.

Cool. Well I'll be about if you are around 1pm.

Thanks very much for all your help! I want the 300zx now; if all their owners are this friendly and helpful, perhaps some of its benevolence will rub off on me. I am flattered by the kind offers of rides Indian and Stricker, if I had more time on my hands I would have taken you up on them.

When I get a 300zx, I'll drop back in to say hi. Cheers guys. ;)
