As the weather is getting warm, i need to get my air con colder.

First thing i need to know, plus a few more questions

does my aircon work???

When i turn it on, the revs go higher, it clicks and it comes out, not warm but cooler. Is the clutch on the front supposed to spin or not????

If it is working, is it worth taking to Kwik fit to re gas or an aircon man.

Having read threads re this, the old stuff is not available anymore, but the connector changed on a certain year???

Mine is a late UK 94 Manual TT if it helps.

I wouldnt let kwik fit empty my fookin ash tray!

You might get a better response from a local garage

Take a pic of the connector and post it up (take the cap off first).

Should be a light blue cap engine bay nearside just near the inner arch. It will be on a small bore aluminium pipe

Once its posted i'll tell you whether its the later refrigerant or not

Better still its right by the number 23 on here, if it looks EXACTLY like tyre valve it is old style if it is not (hard to explain but its a quick release fitting) then its the new type. Finally mines a 1994 and its new refrigerant from factory hasnt been converted. HTH

I had the same problem, fuse removed because the compressor was damaged. The clutch sounds like the source. A new comp. needed . The clutch should engage when you push the air con switch.

Hi Stu, I don't think its down to age but whether it has been regassed since arriving in the UK. The Jap adaptors require to be converted to the European style. I would re-iterate what someone else has said about kwik fit....a bunch of tossers. Have a scout round for a proper garage.

Not quite right John. there was an international change over of gas around 1994 (ish) so it may have been imported on R134a if he's lucky. Its easy to tell if its been adapted since being here or whether it came from the factory like it.

Cheers for the advice gents, have checked just now, just below the dipstick there is two plastic cover, a blue one, on a alu pipe low down, and also a red newer looking one an ali bore pipe of about 10mm,

This red one is a push fit style connector.

Any help

hope it aint the compressor mate...i couldnt actually test it before yanking it out the old zed for you...as the aircon rad was chucked previoulsy

there are i notice some mobile aircon specialists running around sussex if all else fails...might at least diagnose the issues

If its a push fit then it will be new gas so your half way there. Easiest and first port of call is to check that its gassed. Find an aircon specialist though not Kwik Fit
