getting really stressed with my zed and really need some expert help......its an n/a auto and its been hesitating for while more so in the wet. then all of a sudden it started running on 5 cylinders. i phoned jeff at zedworld who was super helpful and bought a set of plugs and a coil pack as it seems to point to that but its not cured the problem. weve tested the injector connectors for corrosion but they are fine.....its seems to be number 2 plug which sparks ok when out of the block but once put in theres no spark again...weve tried moving the plug and coil packs to other positions and they work fine but put them back onto plug no 2 they stop working again. must be an electrical problem but we are stumped......any help would be so appreciated....does anyone know of any specialists in the basildon area in essex.......sorry for the essay chaps but i miss my zed and desperate to get her going again.....thankyou very much..........

im useless when it comes to mechanics lol. my fitter tells me ..he asked me if anyone knows how many volts should go to each coil pack ?

hi there, just wondering if you have done a compression test on number 2 and a couple more so that you can compare,i thought this maybe a avenue that may give you some answers.Hope it helps.

Are you sure that it is not the injector that's not operating? You could still have a wiring break upstream of the connector.

z head.......yeah hes done a compression test on number 2 and it appears fine. thanks for the help mate, its much appreciated..

willieO......i shall put that to my mechanic. i think he has checked all the power to the injectors and they seem fine but i will mention it to him to be on the safe side..thankyou very much mate.............ive heard alot about the p.t.u with these sorta problems. could this be a possibility anyone..?

thanks zedwhizz. i dont really dont have a way of getting the car to you especially as its running on 5 cylinders and your workshop is quite far from me. ive spoke to jeff at zedworld and we think its definately a connetor plug somewhere but we just cant find which one.......do you know of anyone that could come to basildon with a proper diagnostics machine...?

you said it was worse in the wet?...have you tried a different MAF ?...just a thought

no havnt tried that uno. do u think that would make it run a cylinder down ?

MAF failures throw up a huge list of symptoms / problems...just think its quick and easy to swap over from a fellow zed car and will eliminate a common source of grief.

cheers

ok maybe i should try that to. finding it hard to find anyone in my area though that can help. thanks for the help uno its much appreciated........

Sound either PTU or Maf related.

If its messing about on a single cylinder, could point to PTU.

Silver thing with fins on, usually on the left hand side cam cover, or my have been relocated.

Have you got series 1 or 2. If a series 1, they had a tendancy to just die for no reason. Check connections on both sides are clean and no green gunk on the blades.

If series 2, they can still go wrong, check the connections are clean also.

Try using a electrical contact cleaner like Ambersol, and a very small file.

Had this before, and although it looked as the blades of the connectors were clean they were not.

Also check and clean the MAf connections, both sides.

If needed i have a spare working ptu, to eliminate, but would need it returning.

Process of elimination.

Stu

my maf sensor went it run like a pig power would come in every now and then but mostly misfired just like limp home mode,it got so bad had to keep dipping clutch to get revs up to drive, garage had no clue for weeks clutch blew in no time, their ecu diagnostic said o2 sensors took it somewhere else maf sensor hope this may help

sussex stu.....im not sure if my ptu is a series 1 or 2. ive cleaned the connections and its still running on 5. ill try again incase i havent done it enough. i havent cleaned the maf connections so ill try that next. if your serious about lending your ptu in helping in the process of elimination then that would be superb and very kind, ill let you know how i get on with the maf.........
