Hello again, I say again as I joined this site just over 2 years ago when I was thinking of buying A 300 then. In the end I bought a Celica GT4 ST205 which is now over 300bhp, trouble is I want more power and it's just not worth the money to get it IMO so I think it's time to Upgrade :D

I've had a look through the buyers guide etc and I'm going round taking cars for drives ATM just to get a feel for the good ones from the bad ones so to speak. Got to sell my four yet but I'm in no rush so thought I'd start hanging out here and learn a bit about the car I'm planning to buy.

I'm after a SWB TT manual Targa, which as far as I can work out are rare as hens teeth, but I would settle for a LWB one if the condition/price was right. Any way enough waffle, If i see your stand at Japshow, I'll be sure to come over and say hello.

Cheers for the welcome guys, out of interest, how easy is it to ectract more BHP/torque from the TT engine? what sort of gains will i see from any modifications and how will they effect reliability?

and "slicktop" sounds like a hair cut your grandad had in the 40's................

 LMFAO

very easy mate. uprated filter, exhasut, chipped ecu and boost controller and your looking at 400bhp. and reliability will still be very good.

Done all that and made 333bhp @ the fly - i'm not sure 400 is possible without dramatically reducing reliability etc....

Hmmmm, I've almost got that in my four :o( really do want 400+bhp, granted it's going to feel quicker in the 300zx (more torque and less transmission loss) but still not what i was hoping for.

What do you think would be needed to get to that sort of power? (400+)

well i cant remember the name of the guy but he owns the orange zed and that put out 407fwhp on stock tubs and internals.

It is technically possible. paulbrem @ the NW RR day for 407 @ the fly BUT he was running VERY lean and was advised to only turn his EBC on hi for limited special occasions as it were.

If you want that kinda power and running safe and reliable, i would imagine you need to start going bigger on certain things, and in doing so it wont be really cheap.

So technically, the fuel system needs upgrading and perhaps a remap to compensate then. I'd imagine stock turbo's are running at their limit also in terms of flow and operating/intake temp?

turbos max out around 15Psi (stock is 9psi), after the usual upgrades of chip, exhaust, filter, boost upgrade. the big hold back is fuel, yes.

Usually some 555cc injectors are the next best thing, then look at uprating the tubs

Note: Standard ECU's cannot be remapped

I am not an expert mate but yeah thats the idea - bigger injectors are needed, with the correct chip etc......

I believe you are ok to run 400hp on standard tubs and internals, but it is about the limit really.

Well, today i went out in a 300zxtt. It was a bit of a dog TBH and i had no intention of buying it. Someone at some point has spent a fair bit of money on it, but where it's been passed from owner to owner over the last few years it had fallen into neglect which was quite sad really.

It had Blitz dBOV's, TEIN coil overs and a couple of other little bits but it really needed a couple of months of work , stripping and rebuilding to get back to it's best (not to mention a respray)

I was a little disappointed in it's performance though, didn't feel anywhere near as quick as my four, (not sure how accurate the bum dyno is though) still I KNOW that that was a bad one, hopefully going to see a good one tomorrow morning so will report back then.

get down to the next halfway house meet and you can see some good zeds and im sure someone will take you for a drive to show how quick a good zed is.
