Looks like they are getting a bit more fussy on exhausts.

Failed for being "obviously far in excess of what would be considered normal for a car fitted with a similar standard silencer" LOL

The car is very loud but it's been through 4 MOT's like this before.

It's a custom made stainless system with empty back boxes with no baffles :slap:

Been told I just need to quieten it down temporarily and he'll pass it.

Any ideas what I can do?

Mine failed on this too.

I left it with a garage to sort it all out and the suggested chicken wire in the exhausts to use a a temporary baffle!

That's an idea LOL

Bit of chicken wire and a few rags or something?

Jeeez the things I do for this car!

Yeah I got an advisoy on the supra and its really not half as loud as it was before, you cant even hear it at idle!

I asked how they decided it was too loud, what is the limit etc and he said there is no limit they just compare it to a normal standard car. I asked where was the normal supra he compared it to then? lol

This was the council as well so I just thought they were being mardy

try a less fussy garage,

my old car failed before, however the exhaust was Blitz Nur Spec tho!

went different garage went throu ok.

just ask them the quetion is it to loud bofore you book the MOT

I guess so! I left it to the garage as I have no idea what I'm doing lol.

I was also told it's down to the discretion of the tester. Try and bribe him or something?! Bit of beer money.

yeah he said that the law is changing next year and you wont be allowed anything louder than stock!

I think there is some law like this in new zeland? They are really harsh out there with fines etc

He said it's all been really tightened up now.

It was also failed for having my boost controller mounted on the windscreen below the sunvisor

Not allowed anything there now either apparently.

You'd have to be looking for low flying aircraft for that to be within your vision!

Easy to move though.

Next they'll be stopping everyone and fining them for having a screen mounted satnav

Problem is my exhaust is 2.5 or 3 inch straight through.

Removable 6 inch tail pipes so might try taking them off and stuffing a reducer of some sort up there LOL

Removing the tail pipes might reduce it a bit I suppose.

Take it elsewhere !

Am thinking of doing that but this place have passed it the last 4 years when all the dubious bits have been on there before.

Unless it's a new guy who did the actual test I'm not sure anywhere else is much more likely to pass it.

It is LOUD so I have only myself to blame on this really.

Will cost another 50 quid if I don't use the free re-test.

It failed on a list a mile long but only a couple of bits are genuine mechanical problems that need sorting.

1. Rust and play in steering UJ - it feels rock solid to me when driving but easy swap so I'll do it.

2. Front suspension top mount nut is coming loose - tighten it up LOL

3. Hole rusted through nearside sill near seatbelt mounting point - I haven't seen any holes and I spent a week under the car recently but it's a quick weld job I've been told.

4. Nearside headlight has 1 mounting broken and won't adjust to left - been like this for 9 years since I bought it and never had a problem with light pattern before.

5. A pillar mount gauge pod encroaching more than 10mm into Zone A - find it hard to believe but will take it out as gauges aren't wired in yet.

6. Blitz SBC Boost controller below sunvisor encroaching more than 10mm into Zone A - it's not visible unless you look up at the sunvisor LOL Will move as it's just on suckers.

7. Two brake pipes corroded - yes they're rusty but seemed very solid when I was working on them recently.

8. Exhaust too noisy - well it is I suppose LOL

9. Number plate not vertical - it's on a flexible aluminium bracket that needs pushing an inch to vertical LOL

10. Alarm wiring behind dash slipped down to pedal area - needs a cable tie to keep it out the way.

11. One out of the 4 washer jets is missing the screen - how tight is that?

12. Foglight is dim and should be same brightness as a brake light - Since when? It's a fog bulb in a fog light unit and i tested it the night before and it's FAR brighter than the brake lights.

Advisory Items:

13, One of the front R34 calipers creaks when pressed?

14, Offside front wheel inner rim has a slightly distorted bead rim - the wheels are spotless so no idea how?

15, Both front flexi brake hoses insufficiently clipped - braided hoses fitted, missing one of the brackets as there's no mounting point on them.

16, Hoses fouling nearside stearing gaiter - no idea what they are but will have a look. I haven't seen anything hanging down when I've been under there.

In total there's 18 points! Is that a record? LOL

Might try elsewhere as I don't think I can get it all done within 10 days anyway so will have to pay again.

Might as well do the silly easy jobs and stuff something up the exhaust to quieten it a bit and then take it elsewhere.

Think he was trying for a shit load of work if you ask me.

stuff the silencer with wire wool ...worked a treat on my motorbike...passed MOT then took the wire wool back out :)

Reading that it sound like they have had your pants down!

Does a bit!

I think I'll try to find somewhere new and a bit more modification friendly LOL

Just can't afford to keep trying different places at £50 a time until they pass it :headvswal

£50:shock: i just put my uncles car through a test and only cost me £25. but i suppose its not what you know but who. lol

Lucky git!

It's actually £54 now standard charge :(

think he`s being over zealous, wonder if number three is the rear targa drain hole. lol

top tip bud...to be honest this must be some kind of joke as my local mot centre passed a car with a spitfire engine in it....you can hear it from @ 1km away...that and the flames that spit out

Lucky git!

It's actually £54 now standard charge :(

£54 ??? I only paid £44 two weeks ago, mine passed with a import sized plate on the front.

small fluid leak from steering rack which have always had must get round to sorting it.

advisory on fuel lines as they can't fail them unless they are actually leaking, but they just need a clean up.

advisory on nsf brake pipe, the 1 near the shock, which also just needs cleaning.

Then again I used to work with the guy who half owns the place. many years ago.

He's also 1 of the testers and owns a 300;)
