Hi all,

Hopefully someone could help shed some light on a very odd looking red light that keeps coming on on my dash.

when does it come on?

Cat overheat light.

It essentially means that you have a missfire that is allowing unburnt fuel into the exhaust system where it is igniting itself.

Would that not do damage to the cat , ie unbernt fuel i have heard does not do them any good ?

No chance on mine i ran out of fuel on my drive , to lazy to fill up last night on the way home from CFC

Thanks for responses guys. That would make sense. There is a slight blow from the cats. It comes on when it feels like it. I'll sort the exhaust out and hope it goes away.

Thanks again all

It's not the exhaust you need to sort, it's the missfire you need to sort!

Common items to check, plugs, coil-packs (check for split rubbers and loose connections) & PTU! All possible/potential problem areas.

I saw that light myself for the first time when starting the car for the first time in nearly two months. It only came on when I was turning the ignition along with the other lights, but never had come on previously. Went off as soon as the car started (like the other lights). Should I worry?

All the lights come on to show you the bulbs are working when you start it then go out.

Dave, i think you're right. It does seem to almost stall sometimes when pulling to a stop. I have a feeling the injectors need sorting out. That would explain the cat overheating too as the unburnt fuel runs down in to them.

Coil packs come loose as the rubbers inside ware. Jeff showed and kindly sorted a seal out for me when i showed him my Z. Hope it isn't anything worse bud.

Hi there, from Martin. I have a red light come on evertime I brake and put my lights on, as my Lexus 400 had but that ha`d a bulb out and i don't seam to have om the Z. Is this your light as well? Red one?

Do you have the rear perspex strip with a brake light built in above your lights? If so it will be a bulb out in that.

Led brake light bulbs?

Mine has some out and the light comes on when I brake letting me know they are out.
