Ok what we got here then, a zed with an odd sound from the engine area, some thought was big ends, some thought was little ends and some even thought VVT springs.

Well non of the above, the car has just been treated to a pair of new turbo`s ( last month) but they are fine and fitted well and are not the problem, sadly cannot say the same about the workmanship on fitting the gearbox back to the engine

Cut it short when the gearbox was refitted he did not refit the side brackets between the gearbox and engine so there was no lower fixings at all, the top 4 fixings were all loose and the gearbox had started to fall backwards!!! the flex plate was been twisted by the torque converter !!

New side brackets 6 new bolts and all the others torqued up and all was well...lucky man.

Oh and where had it been done....well I am dumbfounded to say by someone who professes to be a 300zx specialist and is known here, this is shocking in our view and I sincerely hope the customer complains about this shoddy work.

As a side issue , the last photo shows the exhaust brackets missing on the gearbox, but even worse the hangers were jammed solid metal to metal which would cause noise and vibration.

Hi Jeff

Wouldn't there have been gearbox oil leaking ?

That could have caused a fire.....

The last transit van I got came with a squealing thrust bearing, paid the guy 2 days after it broke and I was shocked to find the gearbox was bolted to the engine with only a three bolts that where in about 3 threads, I should have suspected, cos I soon as I got it home I looked at the air filter for an indication of last service..............it was missing :s

Well if the torque convertor had moved out of the gearbox anymore it would have leaked and yes a potential fire hazard.

Tony will update you tomorrow about your leather.

who was it then????

Not for me to say here, can pm you if you wish.

Jeff

Can i just say somthing.

should'nt these things be kept private between customer and garage?

If the customer and the garage is not named I don't see a problem.

Its warning us of the dangers out there and what to be wary of :)

Yes agree to a degree, spoke with the customer and he was cool and neither party has been named.

we dont have any zed specialist that supply garage services on the forum bud;)

This info is not only educational but shows up potential danger. I have the greatest respect for Jeffs knowledge and rate him highly. Not many traders will give advice on the other owner clubs i were in. Fair play Jeff!

No names, no shame.

No perhaps I did not make it clear, no one here just known here, public hanging is not fair I fully agree, but in this case there is no excuse and as I used the no names approach no hanging has taken place just warnings to maybe check over jobs of this nature, or ask the garage to show you the car before it is taken off the ramp.

oh dear, looks like somebody got half way through putting the box on and then forgot they hadn't finished it and didn't check it over. :nono::nono:

You know you maybe not far from the truth there, if the job was done over a longer period than it should of these kind of mistakes can creep in, as I said the turbo intallation was done very well.
