but people are willing to spend a grand on a 300zx that is dropping to bits then spend another few grand repairing (may cost even more), but people aint willing to spend over 4k for a nice already sorted zed

i know my car aint everyones cuppa, but there are still some nice examples out there, crotchrockets car was a lovely motor and it took ages to sell, but people were posting left right and centre how they have just bought a car from ebay for a grand with smoke bellowing out from under the bay and the rust is everywhere then go about spending a fortune on it to try and get it road worthy never mind lookin nice

just strikes me as odd is all????

I've never understood that either. But in hindsight, knowing what I do now about them, I'd buy a tatty looking one, as long as it was rust free as I'd build it up to my own exact spec. But as a noob to the Z32 world when I bought mine, I tried to find the best possible one I could regardless of cost.

i sold mine for peanuts and i know it was a good example.

chap bought it to break and use the engine for himself.

quite sad but heyho.

does make me think though when people pay a small amount and have loads of problems straight away

thats gotta be aimed at me lol!! - to be fair iv only spent 2400 inc the cost of the car itself and presumably it will be "as new" once finished - tbh mate if i had 4 grand knocking around id buy yours without a doubt

I spent £800 buying my z with a knackered engine but as my dad is a machinic it didn't cost much to repair and at the time it was the only way I could of ever affored it

I'd say it's because we don't know what we're doing! :) (And we don't have 4.5K to spare!!!)

I think the other thing is that most of the cars here have been modded to their current owners' tastes - as you already pointed out - and half the fun is making something to your own spec.

Perhaps once you've done the whole rebuild thing, as you have, there is less incentive to do it all over again. After all, once you get your 10K beauty, what are you going to do with it? for that amount of money, you must think it's damn near perfect :D

i would happily spend more on mine, but for the car im after i could never achieve that amount of work

I think people just see that there are loads of Z's around for a grand and don't see the point of spending more.

They soon find out why a high performance £40 grand car is now £1000.00 and have no choice but to spend the money on fixing it.

I lost track of how much I spent on mine in the last 9 years but it must be well over £30K.

I keep thinking that as I've replaced almost eveything on the car there's nothing else to go wrong.

Then something else breaks LOL

It just never ends with cars of this age and if you've now got more power you find yourself eating clutches and gearboxes in months.

Just as mine is getting there it's starting to rust away

I have to agree as well. I know that some may like a "blank canvas" to create their own motor but I'm lazy and would rather pay a premium for one already sorted.

Si and Steve's cars for example - if I was a new buyer now then those would be my choices;)

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Another way to look at it is, there is no guarantee that after spending 5 or 6 grand on a "sorted" car you not will need to fork out another 2 grand on repairs 2 months down the line. Lets face it these cars aint new now and things can go wrong. You pays your money and take your chance, it could be folk just want to keep some dosh in reserve for the unknown :).

could be, could be

Alan, the thing is you know what has gone into your zed and the effort it has taken, both my zeds are way better now than they ever were before, my UK manual is quicker and better looking by a long shot, but folks seem to want a fast car like the zed for nothing, then complain that all it has is faults, and how crap they are!!!!.

Sorry but you get what you pay for............

Now my knowledge is far better but would much rather spend extra to get a good one.

i agree with everything said in this thread so far but id like to add a few more of my opinions.

firstly, i dont think the pictures of your car do it any justice whatsoever. iv never seen your car in person but i believe that it prolly looks stunning... get some arty decent shots of it at angles that really show off its strong points.

secondly, and this only accounts for people who will be looking here, trawling through the forums trying to find a Z... you have 1 thread stating how good your car is for a potential buyer etc and other threads stating how you have detonation problems and idle problems etc. i appreciate your being honest and are not trying to 'hide' anything but if some1 was genuinely interested in buying your car has read some of the help threads you make, i guarantee they would be put off by them.

just my opinion. also, where have you advertised it so far? you may need to spend a fair amount on advertising in several different places to spread the feelers out to the target audience.

ive had 2 in the past and paid 1800 for my first 3.0na auto , and 2200 for my current 1992 3.0l manual 2+2 .

my friend has a japan import , which is what i will be buying next , they generally have no rust and are faster and better equipped .

i think there are plenty of good fast cars you can buy for £1000 , but in my experience the Zed is not one of them .

this one looks good , ive been watching ebay , and have seen a few tts ( manual swb) go for 4000 mark .

stella , i think your zed looks amazing , but cream ( or cream / black ) isnt everybodys cuppa tea . to each thier own .

xx

When i went to view it, i felt more of a need to rescue my Z from being abused to destruction....

I bought mine, an almost standard car because people told me you know that it's not been fooked about with.On hindsight i'd of spent my eight grand plus car on a modded example and waited for it to pop.Mine is nowhere near where i want it and i could of bought something much better for less money :(

yeah i understand mate, i have advertised on here and pistonheads so far, it wil be going on autotrader and the likes for next week

BTW, the dettonation was nothing but a sticky tappet due to maybe faulty pcv valves which hae been sorted and so will the taping lol

its cause they look on ebay and there not selling and if they do its for nothing so when people put a very good one on and want £4-6k they are emailed saying your an idiot and you car is worth only £1k. IMO when i was first into buying cars i was the same TBH i would look and think thats cheap i would look at it and would seem ok but after having it a while the fooker would fall to bits and i would end up giving it away, but i learnt and now look at cars with my head not my dick.
