Your car is TWIN turbo and so needs TWIN intercoolers.

It doesnt need twin intercollers, butt they do work better IIRC

:confused::confused:

You need an intercooler per turbo.. twin turbo therefore twin intercooler....

if your refering to a FMIC then they in reality are 2 intercoolers stuck together wheather it be in the form of the HKS type or the Greddy type, its about looks, they both are just 2 intercoolers side by side (or on top of one another in the style of the Greddy) when you get down to it

Buy a nice looking single inlet intercooler and let us know how you fitted it.

I've always wondered why Nissan wasted all that money fitting 2 intercoolers when 1 would have done the job and looked nicerererer.

I'm sure a lot of the guys would like to see a write up on this so we can sell that spare turbo they bolt on the side of the engine.

As to your point about the coolers looking like 2 welded together, here is a link to another FMC I found.....looks the same if not similar to the link u posted.

http://www.flat4online.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?pName=front-mount-intercooler-300zx-twin-turbo&cName=nissan-fairlady-300zx

Cheers John

EXACTLY MY POINT . there must be someone who do them without looking like the two welded together. oh and thanks for taking the time to have a look.

No worries. The one in the link was down at £175 as I think there was a price war on ebay as there were a few others selling them.

Have seen a few pics of like a one-piece cooler but then again Its not really the thing i'd take notice of unless I was looking for the same as you.

Sorry I cant help u any more. Hope u get what you are looking for.

Cheers John

Back onto intercoolers them twin side by side intercoolers are made in china by autobahn 888 .Ive seen them sold by about 5 diffrent retailers over here from £280 to £350 .I dont think the fit and quality is great but you get what you pay for.

http://www.japspeed.co.uk/search.asp?numSearchStartRecord=11

janspeed do this fmic and all in all a good price i think but its the only one on there that looks like someones welded there two side intercoolers together, anyone know of anymore

If you do a search mate, youll find that there are a fair few front mount intercoolers available.

The thing you need to consider is that alot of the cheaper FMICs are nowhere near as efficient as a well designed SMIC (Such as Stillen/Pace/Greddy). The problem with Ebay Specials is that yes they may look pretty, and well made, but the cores are no where as well designed as the better known brands.

If you do decide to go down the FMIC route, then id save the pennies and go for a reputable brand. I know for a fact the HKS and GREDDY FMIC's are very well made with high quality cores.

got my FMIC from Kirbz ...........many moons ago ....just getting round to fitting it ...probably one of the best flowing and efficient FMIC available , looks spot on also

What about the cheap ebay kits with hoses etc included in the kit? I remember last year someone bought one and fitted one, just wanted to know how they fit, and would it be worth fitting over the original 2 intercoolers?

I fitted one to one of my zeds -I can't see how it will fit with a standard bumper - had to fabricate special brackets and make other mods to get it to fit my Stillen bumper!

BUT please dont knock the quality of the unit (just because it's on ebay) - it really is very good - and is simply older re-badged stock (that once was retailed at over £300.00) that is now being cleared off someones inventory.

If your cars off the road and you have a spare day to make it fit - it is a very good unit IMHO. :o

I bought a Greddy fmic from Z1motorsport that isnt welded together. But its alot of monies depends on whatt power your looking for tho.

not going down the power side havent got the pennies thats why im doing the car myself including bodywork estimate a year to finish.its all about money and weather permiting and time because i have a young family.dont want to compramise on quality to much but i dont want to look at the front also and see two ic welded together also

if you have a 99 spec front then the coolingto the rad is not really compromised as the air intake is much larger, also i am goingto duct cooler air from the origional SMIC ducts to the rad and im removing teh AC rad to help air flow also ...cant remember now if mine is a big single balanced FMIC or two ..it looks like just one big cooler but i may be wrong

kirbz may know

cheers,

Hi Sean

The border front mount is much bigger than the other front mounts and the pipework is alot bigger (60mm) its also angled so still lets air pass to the radiator and is also the most expensive of all the front mounts (over £2k new) and does not come with an induction.

Price wise its not open to offers or i will just fit it to my new zed.
