Going to bleed my brakes next weekend so which is the best fluid to go for?

My car is running a lot of power and has the R33 calipers fitted so I'm wanting something that isn't going to boil after a good thrashing.

Opie Oils have a sale on so any you'd go for here?

Think I've got Castrol Response DOT4 or Super DOT4 at the moment but it hasn't really survived that well.

How's it going, i would be using castrol .6 race fluid its wicked stuff had it a sierra cossie and it never suffered brake fade after it. Just make sure, that you clean out all the brake lines before you put it in, it reacts with the normal stuff, it costs a bit too...

I presume you mean Castrol SRF? Can't find any others.

Gets very good reviews everywhere.

It's about £58+P&P most places but found some for £33 inc delivery on eBay.

Might go for that.

At least it's in litre bottles - most are half a litre and I'd think you'd need at least a litre to give it a decent flush through?

Could i be rude and jump in on your thread too Chris :p

This is something i wanna do sooner rather than later also. I'm only running 277rwhp so no mega super fluid needed for me. I am however running 8-pot k-sports on the front.

What stuff is best for me?

Cheers,

Isaac

i thought the super duper race fluid attacked the oem seals and eventually caused all sorts of problems?

Not sure exactly what spec we are meant to be using hence the question really.

From what I've read it's all down to the boiling point. If you are never going to exceed the boiling point of a particular liquid then it will be fine for your needs.

I have never ever had my brakes fade on the road no matter how hard I push it but when I went to the Nurburgring a while back they literally lasted 2 minutes!

Wanting to get something that will cope if I decide to do a track day :)

The Motul RBF600 that Opie are selling off seems a very good spec and price and may well be good enough for what I need?

I believe Dot 4 is the recommended fluid for a Z32.

Richard:)

i used dot 4 for this reason i wasnt sure about the seals but it would be good to find out for deffinete what we could use

Stick to Dot 4 (Dot 4 superceeds Dot 3) or Dot 5.1 (Dot 5.1 has a higher boiling point but its more expensive and not available everywhere).

Dot 3, Dot 4, Dot 5.1 are polyethylene glycol fluids and suitable for the 300zx. They can also be mixed.

Dot 5 is silicone based, it can not be mixed with polyethylene glycol based fluids and is non lubricating so can damage seals and ABS pumps.

The naming conventions used can be confusing.

Specialist Race Fluids such as Castrol SRF are compatable with Dot 3, 4, 5.1 and superceed 5.1 boiling limits. They also absorb less moisture. It is really expensive and not necessary unless you intend to do a lot of Hard track days.

A lot of the fluids just say they exceed DOT 3, 4, 5.1 etc so how on earth are you meant to know what is compatible?

Some just say synthetic or silicon based.

For example the Castrol SRF says exceeds Dot 4 and "is suitable for all disc and drum brake systems with the exception of those for which mineral oil is prescribed"

The Motul stuff says "RBF 600 brake fluid is suitable for all types of hydraulic actuated-brake and clutch systems requiring a non-silicone synthetic fluid"

So I still don't have a clue  LOL

You beat me to it with that post.

Makes it a bit clearer. Cheers!

Hello guys, i dont know about seal damage, with using this fluid, but i will say that it was in my car for 2years and never caused me any problems, i was put on to it by a mate that worked in the lab for castrol ireland, and he reconed it was the buisness. if thats any reassuance..

Bought some SRF off eBay for £33 for a litre including delivery as it's around half price.

Was going to cost that for any of the others anyway.

Even Halfords "race" fluid is £10 per half litre.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but i want to get my brake fluid flushed etc. Boiled it a bit at the japfest, i also have the R33 callipers. So just wondering how your finding the SRF? I will be doing track days but i use the car on the road a lot, and like you chris, ive never boiled them on the road, it was only at the end (lap 6/7) of castle combe that the went a bit spongy.

Or anyone with any other suggestions for a good track/road brake fluid.

cheers
