i need to repair the tailgate on the SWB and the spoiler has to come off....so shall i leave it off and go smooth or put it back on?

the car is very rapid and wondered if the spoiler adds a lot of balance/downforce which if taken away might make things a bit skittery?

thoughts please

cheers

chris

SWB actually look very good smooth. but since you have a rather angular and fussy looking front bumper and skirts, I am not sure having the smooth look would work on yours?

skirts gone now si...bumper will be stock in the next 2 weeks...getting shot of the other one

nice pic of the shorty ck...will lose the rear wiper i think as well

my shorty is smooth (see sig and rides) although its not all same colour at the moment so not best example

I'm sure when those types of spoilers were made they didn't take into account much Performance enhancements just looks! I'm sure if anything there will be less drag when driving but i'm sure performance will be unaffected.

IMO, Shorties suit the smooth look, while the LWB often doesn't.

btw the stock spoiler does not create downforce, it is there to smooth the airflow as it exits the rear of the car helping to reduce lift.

Aftermarket spoiler is unlikely to do anything at all... it would crack in half before it created any downforce.

Cant say I have ever noticed any handling or stability differences in Z's with and without spoilers at high speed.

no worries , took me a while to find though , got a fair few pics of Z's from here and other sites , and that's the only smooth swb i could see

Chris:)

Chris, defo go smooth mate, since our last chat, i am going to lose my skirts too, just dont want to find what they are hiding.............

p.s. the carpet in the other zed is being a toss**...................

leave the spoiler off, it would look great smooth. then sell the spoiler to me please :)

 Go smooth then. As said, shorties look pretty smart with shaved arses. Mine came from Japan sans-spoiler and it just didn't look right, but shorties proportions are such that without a spoiler they look good.

Personally I wouldn't but just go smooth and if you don't like it whack the spoiler back on. simples ;)

thats what im doing... if i have an early oem spoiler it will be the f/g replica so no holes in tailgate required. so smooth it off and see if you like it... if you dont then you can fit any spoiler you choose without having to repaint the tailgate.

btw... i think smooth is the way fwd for a swb
