picking a Z up tomorrow, traveling 100 miles,

got a transit pickup, and a car trailer (big 14fooot proper car trailer)

the car has a handbrake, and i can put it in gear,

will i be fine without the strap things?

or should i use some tow rope as a prevaution.

I would use ratchet straps to secure the wheels to the trailor, you will be surprised how much they can move, especially on a metal bed of a trailor.

mate,

you are towing a ton and half of car on a trailer , if you have to stop suddenly or swerve the handbrake and car being in gear will NOT stop the tyres loosing grip and the car from flying through the back of the transit and killing all inside and / or other innocents on the road ....you MUST by law strap the car down with proper ratchet straps or ratchet chains ....please dont even consider towing a car on a trailer that has not been strapped down correctly

good luck

ok thanks mate,

was just thinking seatbelts would do to hold it down?

how much do the propoer straps cost?

I think they'r about £10 each.. and no seat belts will not be ok..... as said abov the car is1.5 ton's.. so can not risk any one else life by being stupid.... go get the straps and be safe.. imagin how you will feel when it allgoeswrong and you have ignored the info and advise given..... it's just not worth it.

I have towed my car on a trailor several times.

We always use a good quality rope and tie it round each of the alloy spokes to the trailor.

also if the trailor has a winch thinger to pull the car up we also fasten that tightly to the roll bar underneath the car.

Happy Zedding in the new car :D

My mate took his beetle to his house 3 miles away.

No straps, or chains- jeez ok, i'll walk i said.

First bend the thing bounced+ hopped over the side of the trailer+ slid off the back.

Cue enraged neighbours, police etc.

I know its not very pc, but i nearly popped a kidney laughing.
