I know this has been covered time after time but i wonder if some1 could shed some light on my particular case...

Last year i changed my centre prop bearing and rear gearbox mount due to vibrations through the seat. This cleared the vibes and all was well. However, just recently the vibes have gradually been climbing there way back up the viboscale and now they are just as bad again.

Due to the fact that the centre prop bearing cured it last time, would i be correct in assuming that the new centre bearing could have tightened up the propshaft but was imminently going to fail again with a latent prop failure, like worn u/j knuckles allowing the shaft to play, or maybe it is simply 'out of balance' somehow. Does this sound like a reasonable assumption or am i reading between the lines?

What other checks can i do to eliminate other possible causes? rear wheel bearings, hicas fault, bushings, diff fault, my gearbox is pretty shoddy but im not sure what vibes that could cause...?

The vibes are really prominent on acceleration, they peak at around 80mph and they gradually drown to a reasonably low vibration after 20mins or so driving apart from at the peak speeds. FYI i re-checked the balance of the wheels and this made no difference :( (i thought it had at first but the 20min drive to the tyre garage was enough to fool me into thinking it was miles better, driving it from cold this morning and the dreaded frequency returned!)

From what I can remember, isn't the symptom of the rear GB mount 'vibration when cold, better when warm'?

If it happens from 70-80 and reduces after the car has warmed up then it is usually the propshaft!

Friction warms up the joints, they expand and fill the spaces that were causing the vibration.

There is a Propshaft specialist in bristol.....I cant remember the name...but Jimmer knows them...

....hang on a minute....off topic...mark was at Wozzer's birthday ??

At the meeting not the posh sit down event :)

The propshaft guy may or may not be able to help you, but the long term solution may be a one piece!

When the centre bearing was changed, were the propshaft universal joints checked as these can also eventually dry out and wear. Years ago a grease nipple was fitted and they were regreased during serving, unfortunately to save money this practise was discontinued.
