im running out of time to find the exact colour my motor is painted in. ive tried central car paints here in Leicester, Halfrauds, and a dealership of the make i thought it was painted in. ive managed to track down the mobile number of the guy who painted it but had to shut up shop by contacting his best mate's dad, lol, but the phone is permanently switched off. ive seen so many paint chips i think im now colour blind, and ive got one month left :headvswal

looking through more paint books aint gonna help, so can anyone recommend a place in the Midlands who has got the kit/expertise to say what it is?

Wish i could help but.. i've been all over the country pretty much looking for some one that can help mach mine but no luck at all.... if you do find some one please let me know.. if i do i'll do the same...

I had the same issue with my RED zed when I bought it many years ago - in the end I got one of those stone-chips paint touch up guys to match the colour and it turned out to be a porche Red. I bought a small bottle of touch-up for his time - so cost me a tenner. But it was worth it later when it came to more serious paint work afor alterations.

Hope that helps.

neil especially could give custon exotics a try? maybe a bit far for dave?

Tried them...asked them about colour matching and if they couldnt thenhow much fo a respray..... just quoted me £4500 for a respray in another colour.....

So by that i take it they either cant or wont try to match it....

...It depends on the guy you get - some of them are corporate whores - some of them like to help folks - it's a lottery man! It might be worth trying another on the pretext of touching up a patch on your car - that way he will have to get interested - or get lost! ;-))

there is a firm down my way (they may have other branches) caleed HEX HOLDINGS! you just send them you petrol flap & they will match the colour & have the paint sent to you same day!!! any help to you???

my local carspares had a paint scanner, and they have branches everywhere i think, they cant use it on pearls etc, multi layer colours

Hi Dave

Try Ian at Digbeth Coachcraft.... they colour matched my green pearlescent brilliantly

They won't bullshit and he's one hell of paint guy

Or the Amington Crash repair centre opposite Zedworld .... they do some exotic stuff

thanks for the replies folks! ive started (again!) with a place called REO, not far from me. they were recommended to me 5 years ago when i was looking for someone to do the original work. they were undercut in the end by the chaps that did do it, but i would have confidently gone to them as they didnt look like cowboys and they looked experienced.

i gave them a bell today and explained my problem and what i'd investigated so far. they reckon they can mix the paint for me, as long as the bodyshop doing the work (Amington opposite Jeff's) are happy to use someone else's paint. its water-based, which i believe is what the original paint is. i'll give Andy @ Amington a bell tomorrow and see what the score is.

crikey time's a-running out!

spoke to Andy at Amington today, gave him the only paint code that I'd discovered from my research, he looked it up and told me it was Mazda Atlantic Blue - exactly the colour I was looking for. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: lets hope its the right one though! lol. i'll find out on the 25th of April.

Dave get the paint code for the masda colour and have it made up and put in a aerosole can, and then you can check the colour. It will only cost a tenner for the base and a tenner for laquer. you can spray a peice of plate and check it against the can. Simples ehh!

just got back from the bodyshop - great bunch of lads and i have a lot of confidence in their abilities - the fabricated Morgan shell sat in the shop was only part of that, lol! Andy showed me the swatch for the paint code I'd discovered and bugger me diagonally, it's the right one!! that really lit my day up! popped over to say hi to Jeff and Jamie - nice to see Tony again too - hadn't seen you since last year's meet near Coventry I think? Z's going up next Saturday. getting quite excited now!
