Some bad news about the 630z... but then it gets better!

Had a phonecall from the engineering shop yesterday that went a little bit like this:

"Mr Tandy?"

"Is that Bob?"

"It is, just ringing to say the heads and flywheel are all done"

"What about the block?"

"Umm i don't know how to tell you this but you know you wanted it overbored?"

"Yup"

"It was already overbored by 40thou"

"Great so you don't need to do anything?"

"Um nope it's scrap"

"Huh?"

"It's so badly scorched and scratched under the protective layer of grease you should just chuck it and get another block"

"F*****SSSSHHH******TTT****" :headvswal

So spent the rest of the afternoon desperately ringing every v8 supplier in the country trying to find someone who would be able to supply just the block.

Finally the previous owner got in touch to say he'd rang an old friend Peter Knight who runs a V8 workshop in daventry.

I took the afternoon off today and went down to see what he had and managed to find a 1969 block, pre acid dipped, with new cam bearings already installed and overbored by 40thou, the piston clearance was perfect and exactly to spec as to what we wanted and I picked it up for £350.

The engineering work on the old block would have cost me £280 + £70 for the bearing installation tool and £30 for the bearings so i'm ready to build

Spent this afternoon with a wirebrush tool and the engine stand cleaning the block and grinding away all the casting lines, i'll be painting it on saturday and i'll get some pictures up then :D

PHEW!!!!!

The heads ARE buggered

They've been welded at some point but didn't know until they'd skimmed them!

Luckily it's not near the cylinder so should be fine :D
