bit of advice if anyone can, my offside caliper moves when breaking sharply, the caliper moves in the direction of the disc approx 5mm travel, once you let off the brake it goes back

i've had the wheel off and can see nothing amiss or loose, even took the tie rod off to check for cracking but nothing wrong either

 

any advice welcome

Are you sure the caliper is moving? .

The calipers are held in place by 2 bolts, so unless you have a bolt snapped its more likely that the pads move slightly

Is the caliper on a bracket?

Has it got the correct bolts on it?

Something sounds very wrong there.......

i reckon its a suspension arm / tie rod problem not the calpier bolts...buggered if i can see how though

i guess there is a small possibility of frozen bolt seems tight but isnt tight to the caliper face....that said i have tried moving the caliper in situ but wont budge hence my thoughts its further down the chain i.e arms etc...thanks for the link gary

Daft question time.........

 

How can you tell it's rotating? Are you driving it at walking speed and jamming on the brakes with someone alongside?

 

What happens when you do it in reverse? do you get a clunk?

yes someone is watching from the curbside...after speaking with topless i'm thinking the tie rods are flexing...will try to spin the wheel with the car jacked up

quick update paul from swz is fairly certain its the upper arm bushes based on my description of the movement...which is handy as i've got one in the garage

Chris, is that the problem we couldnt find before, i said it sounded brake like???? Interesting..........

its the upper arm bushing...fitted today problem gone away 100%.....cheers to paul swz and jeff @ zedworld and all others who chipped in
