it drives me  the way foriegn drivers get away with being morons in this country!:rant:

that potuguese driver just got 3 years for killing 6 members of 1 family!

quote "i may have taken my eyes off the road to look at my 19inch screen to check where is was going"

BULLSH*T!!!

we have sat-nav so do they but they're so busy watching films that they dont bother to watch the roads!

so now its as good as legal for them to come over here and take our lives as well as our jobs!!

 him living it up in our prison for a year and a half wont bring back that poor family and wont repair the damage it has caused to their relatives!

I am so sick of the way this country has just bowed down to europe and allowed them to walk all over us!

the government is useless the court system is useless and as long as you are not a british citizen you CAN get away with murder!

there motors arnt restricted..never knew that:confused:

the point is that 3 years is not enough for someone who has wiped out an entire family!

Thats a valid point - but there was no real need to bring his country of origin into the thread ;)

doesnt bother me if your from england portugal or mars if you kill 6 people and its your fault accident or not whatever you want to call it, 3 years though!

If our justice system is supposedly the best in the world, then that says a lot about the justice in our world.

to be fair it was never proved that he was watching his laptop etc and it was also said that the car had already crashed?? i guess its something that we will never know but will haunt the guy for ever more.

i know 3 years does not seem long but to the family of the dead people i dont suppose it matters what he got as they were never going to be happy with it whether it be 1, 3, 5, 10 years?

exactly, everyone should be treated equally.

but we're not equal, no one is, no race no religion no one.......

yea a bin drinkin....:duffer:

I know this is going to go against the grain here, but is the man who caused the accident not a victim also? Having to live with the fact that you are responsible for wiping out a whole family will prey heavily on any decent person's conscience.

And before I get shot down, I do know what it is like to be part of a family who has had lost loved ones through a motoring accident which they did not cause.

He was found innocent of dangerous driving but guilty of careless driving. You'd probably get dangerous if they caught you doing 120mph.

If he was watching fillms or something on a laptop he was a twat and should have been done for manslaughter.

I'll be honest, how hard is it to just watch the road??

I got stuck on the M5 today for 2 and a half hours because someones lorry had somehow fallen over or hit a bus (pair of them being enourmous i cant see how this happened?). Not sure if they have a habit of that or its lack of ability?

Not happy though. I'll quite openly say id be over the moon if steps were taken to put freight back on railways. Or at least banned them all to the inside lane, if they dont change lanes then theres got to be a huge drop in the risk of them hitting somthing else

EVERY accident has got a wagon in it somewhere, drives me mad.

I don't know all the facts but I think the operative word here is "accident."

With the volume of traffic on the roads nowadays the risk if an accident is greater than ever. If you're driving a long distance within the speed limit - but not recklessly - and you have an RTA that is eventually deemed your fault and results in someone's death then you are not automatically a killer.

Careless driving is quite an easy offence to be found guilty of following an RTA and it could just as well happen to any one of us. Does that mean that any driver responsible for an RTA must be jailed if it results in a death? In general I do not think so.

Accidents happen - of course reckless/dangerous/drink driving is a different matter - and I don't think someone should be jailed for what is effectively a momentary lapse of concentration.

That's just my broard opinion in general, given my lack of in depth knowledge of all the facts of the case in question.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

does anyone know if the family were dead or alive before the lorry hit them, as i understand, they had already crashed into an other vehicle first.

does this not mean that the father of the family. did exactly what the lorry driver did

if the father had survived, would he have got 3 years for killing his own family ??

:bow::bow:HERE HERE:bow::bow:

I dont believe it was a lenient sentence....or harsh...or even fair....its a difficult scenario, since he was not found guilty of using his laptop im referring to the case of Careless driving. How does one decide the punishment for a small mistake that has such terrible consequences.

Nobody can claim that for every second you've ever been behind a wheel you have been 100% alert, it only takes a split second. Its a terrible situation that anyone can quite easily face and the driver will have to live with it for the rest of his life.

If he was found guilty of using the laptop, then his sentence would of been Dangerous driving and Death by dangerous driving is a whole different story and is much more harshly penalised.

well said

im a lorry driver,as a lot of you will know

5 years ago, some stupid little bitch tried to pass me on the inside, when i was turning left

she got her car crushed under the trailer wheels, and she was lucky to be alive

because, she was a nice little nurse, and i was a big bad lorry driver.

i actually got done for careless driving. (believe it or not)

if she had died

should i have gone to prison ????

the law is there to protect the rich, with loads of money, that can afford top class lawyers

i drive a lorry and the view from the cab means that there should never be any reason for an accident.

i can see better and further down the road than any other vehicle and have better all round vision through mirrors.

trouble is too many drivers get complacent and dont pay enough attention to the road or whats going on around them(this is what causes accidents)

also lorries from other countries often use the third lane which is illegal in this country because they are not restricted to 56mph like we are.

maybe it all boils down to people being idiots!!!!
