I am having a engine rebuild and have taken loads of pics.

I thought I would start a thread and share my pics and progress through this.

All the work is getting done at Custom exotics, but though It would start stripping what I could off the engine at home in the garage.

I have never done this before so It felt a bit daunting, but after a while I was enjoying It and was pleased I started stripping it myself ( felt I was learning more about my engine by doing this)

I have managed to remove the drive belts, radiator, AC radiator, PS pump, AC compressor, alternator. All the intercooler pipes removed along with the inlet pipes to the turbos, some were a right pain. All the electrical connections on the top removed and the ones round the side I could see as well. I found the heater matrix pipes were bloody hard to disconnect. I disconnected some boost hoses, but reckon there are a few more I have forgotten lol. I have been using the guides for engine removal from here and found them very helpful.

Looking at the amount of wires and hoses there are in the engine bay is scary, but I hope to simplify the bay a lot and make it look a lot less cluttered along with a bit of bling. If you ever seen DUBSPEC engine bay from the aussie forum then you know what I mean. I am aiming for something like that.

More stripping later this week, glad I'm labeling and taken loads of pics.

Here are a couple of pics of the car as it looks now down at Custom Exotics.

Thanks,

Ant

Yeah I did take loads of pics but I think my honey zapped them off my camera Grrrrrr ;-))

hi mate,

what did you do to the lower manifold to get it so clean. im doing a bit of an engine refresh and id like to clean up a few allow castings a bit better. i have shot blasted my engine mounts but the inlet, oil pump and filter housing require a little more delicate approch i would think

Hmmm - I have decided to complicate things by removing the now redundant cruise control cable gear and pulley from the throttle control assembly - WHY DO WE DO THESE CRAZY THINGS!!! ;-))

Once the oil tree and lower manifold was removed they got a good old sand blast. Brought it up a treat. The oil pump is new. HTH.

Cheers,

A little Update.

Got a lot done since last time. Only a few more things to do, a couple of jubilee clips which I need to replace for new ones and just need to sort a couple of wires too. Apart from that it's pretty much ready to fire up in a few days for the first time and I'm nervous about doing it.

Still to decide whether to keep the throttle cover black or go with orange, may stick with black to break the orange up a bit.

Had the wrong lower bracket sent through with the Aspec rad (sent one for a N/A) so Custom Exotics modified this one to fit.

I was surprised how much bigger the SMIC were to the OEM ones.

Speaking to Brett at Custom Exotics he was suggesting maybe making up a plate to cover some of the pipework and wires at the back. So a few more decisions to be made.

I've put a few more pics up if anyone is interested.

Cheers,

Ant

nice :batman:

are not considering dual intake at this stage of tune ??

Speaking to John Dixon, he said to go with my current setup for running it in then decide after whether to go with a dual intake or something else.

Z centre do something which could help with what you've mentioned above..

Lovely Ant - I think - keep it black to match the body and break up the orange. But either way still stunning.

Looks fabulous. Love the orange parts - but i'd keep the throttle cover black, its a nice contrast.

Keep the updates coming.

Thanks for the nice comments. From what you have all said I agree and think the throttle cover should remain black.

Just got to keep it all that clean now lol.

"IT STARTED"

Can't believe it. Last friday managed to get the last few bits done and thought we would fire it up and see if it would start. Couldn't believe that it started first time no problems no leaks. So we fired it up a second time and decided to film it. No exhausts fitted yet and sounded sweet.

I will say that I felt so nervous before hand and there was a big relief when it fired up and was running smoothly.

Anyway here is the short video, you won't enjoy it as much as I did lol.

Cheers,

Ant
