I remember this one lesson, we were put into groups for some kind of barnstorming exercise. I went with two of my friends. Lee and Dave. So, we wrote our initials at the top of this large A3 piece of paper. Our teacher got really funny with that, as, in our innocent little minds, we hadn't realised we'd scribed the name of an illicit substance on the top of the page.

With haste, we scribbled out the letters L, S and D and wrote them the other way round!

When my son, Graham died, I thought, why us ?

Both my wife and I have lived good lives and without being too up myself, I consider us good people, so why take my boy ? He, nor us deserved it !

Went into a church and had a chat with a minister.

Know what he said ??

God is testing you !:mad:

Well **** him !! Why not test some of the junkies up the next estate or the tossers that hide their bairns under the bed for a fortnight, or baby P`s mother ??

Sorry folks, there is a big almighty hole in my heart, that doesnt need any testing. I am a non-believer by the way !:nelson:

Absolutly disgusting thing for him to say:rant:, should be ashamed of himself not exactly a scriptual comment either !:nono:

i really dont want to open a can of worms with what i am about to say

but i've spoke to Vicars,Priests,Mormons, etc and had them stumped or questioning what they've said to me during the same conversation !

not saying all are the same but suprising how little some of them know about the book there supposed to follow when questioned!,

hence why i dont follow a particular group

i know what you're saying mate....where was god during the holocaust?....where was god when dunblaine happened....?.....where was god when baby p died....or at that beslan school in russia? or aberfan in wales?...the biggest ironies of relgion i can think of was during an earthquake in south america some years ago the majority of those killed where in church attending sunday morning mass...the non believers who didnt attend were in the main unharmed

Terribly sorry to hear mate.

What I often wonder in these situations is that, people are quick to blame God when something bad happens. What strikes me however, is that if people believe in God, then naturally they should also believe in the Devil.

Now my question is, why do people never blame him/her/it (whatever you think the Devil is) when bad things happen? I mean, if God is suppose to be all loving and all caring, then surely he wouldn't want to put us through so much pain by taking a loved one away?

Just a thought, don't want to offend anyone.

You have a very valid point there my friend !

Truth is, I didnt actually believe in God before it happened, always been a disbeliever. Was at a loss after it happened, and my mother-in-law who is a regular church goer suggested that if I needed someone to talk to, the church was always there. No parents or brothers etc.

Just picked a church at random.

Dont actually know what I was wanting him to say ? Words of comfort perhaps ? I dunno !

My only excuse, and its feeble I know was I was looking for somebody to blame. If there was a God, couldnt he have thrown me a little slack, told Satan that this one he wasnt getting his hands on ? Being all powerfull and that ? Calmed down since then, getting older I guess ?

Anyhoo,

Just to lighten the mood, anybody a George Carlin fan ??

Fantastic American Comedian. Heres his take on religion ! Funny !!

what's all this adam and eve b0llocks then?!?!?. god creating the world in 6 days etc. where do the dinosaurs fit in ???

religion IMO causes more hatred and pain across the world then anything else. ... fanatics of the faith is open to abuse the more unfortunate among us and waaaaay too many people are hurt because of faith....

i believe in physical matter , i suppose science and proof is what i believe in.

.)No mention of Dinosaurs in the bible really

but it does state a thousand years is but a day to God so dont think the earth was created in a matter of days.

.)Did read a suggestion in a Creation vs evolution book once that suggested Dinosaurs where simply created to mostly clear away huge amounts of vegetation clearing the way for a human population

other points to consider obviously! ie carnivours:rofl:

but the above is not attached to any faith just from various books iv'e looked at and i tend to agree Religion causes more problems than it solves!

To believe in an all mighty being, that created everything out of nothing, you would be aswell following harry potter as a religion IMHO.

A load of tosh :smash:

and yet believing that everything was formed by evolution... from nothing... is highly sensible?

i dont believe!

heat of the moment and private.

I feel for all of you who have suffered the pain of loss .

However , belief , or disbelief , in this "god " is not about emotions . Those that "believe " have generally been exposed to indoctrination at an early age and it has stayed in their psyche so strongly that they are either afraid to , or unable to question it logically . Fear of expressing disbelief in the face of some kind of divine retribution . I was baptised a Roman Catholic , taught first by nuns and then by the Christian B*stard Brothers of Ireland , but I didn`t get that at home . The indoctrination from those schools didn`t stick with me . To have parents who drum it into a child as well must be an almost irresistable influence . But it`s obvious that the only way these "faiths" can possibly survive in this day and age ( it is the 21st century ! ) is to keep up this vile practice of influencing young and extremely vulnerable minds and preventing them from exploring other philosophies and science itself for explanations of what young minds are thirsty for : proper and proveable knowledge .

Phew !

and yet believing that everything was formed by evolution... from nothing... is highly sensible?

It wasnt created from nothing, the elements needed were there, and a random event started a chain reaction.

but removing a mans rib and creating another human being, ive had losses that im not elaborating on, and if some so called almighty being can stop it, why doesnt he ?

religion is just another form of control, most religions have more money and power than the US president, so dont tell me its all about faith :xxx:

Oh dear ! I can guess what he`ll say started the random event .

it was gravity that created it IIRC, the particles were all drawn together and certain ones collided at super luminal speeds

Not some big bearded bloke that lives in the clouds, surrounded by half naked men with wings, ( i think he could be gay actually )

ROFLPMSL

I meant what Phill82 would say :D

Yeah i know, just getting a reply in before hand :duffer:

Agreed ! Vatican city is classed as the most prosperous country in the world also one of the smallest though, lol

I`m not mocking him . It must be difficult trying to defend his faith against all odds . And reason , for that matter . They don`t like dealing with reason .

i believe religion and god was created in a time long before tv, playstaions and any other type of logical thinking, i think it was used to rule the land, can you imagine what power that would give you if you had a supreme being to dish out any punishment to people not doing what you wanted

i think the church is no better than any of these terrorist cells, they use the power of god to make us do things, fair enough they dont go round killing people or blowing stuff up, but when hooge tradegys happen they are quick to say "turn to god for help" its like saying do what we want or it will happen again

right ho i've had an overnight revalation....church starts at 10am so i'm off...care to join me...i'll pray for your souls otherwise you're gonna burn in the firey pit you non-believers ;)

Don't forget your hymnal!

And so these needed elements have simply always existed, there was no start?

Why is believing in a God, who lives out side of time, and so is able to create the 'needed elements' and time itself, such a crazy and unreasonable thing to do? How is it any more crazy than believing the stuff simply always existed? The very fact that a human being can ask themselves 'why do we exist' suggests to me that there has got to be more than just the physical. And is that a crazy thought? Why can God not exist? He doesn't invalidate any proven scientific theory, he sits along side them very nicely.

If you stand back and look at the whole universe, going back to when it was a random collection of elements (if that's what you believe), up until now with lifeforms of a complexity way beyond our (current, in you like) comprehension, is there not a glimmer of a thought 'why' it should all be? Now you all say 'yes, that's all God is, a nice simple explanation to keep people happy concerning the big questions of life' - yes, God does explain the big questions of life very nicely, but how is that a reason not to believe in him? What evidence does that fly in the face of?

Oh dear ! I can guess what he`ll say started the random event .

why is that so unplausible?
