Thought it may be interesting to see some photo's of real faults & damage that can occur to your zed rather than hypothetical conversations, also may be fun to have a guessing game, take a look at the following photo's, and see if you can guess what went wrong.

Have loads of these and hopefully will of interest for members to see what really transpires when these varied faults occur.

The background to this particular fault is as follows, a rebuilt engine from a small company with in house engineering cnc machining, heads and turbo rebuilding facility.

Car was collected from said builder and around 60 miles later the following was discovered after an engine noise was heard and seem to be getting worse, the noise was semi metallic with a scrapping noise in time with engine speed.

A bit different on this one, rather that damage photos and what caused it here are a couple of photo`s first you need to identfy what they are and as one is broken what the result would be.

transmission reverse spring, stops it going in reverse when your driving over a certain speed ;)

when it brakes it wont go in reverse and has to be replaced.

ignition barrels? with broken spring key does not return from starting position so starter motor keeps running??

Floor corrosion

Ok now check out this case of horrendous floor corrosion, take a look at the sills and they are fine so the car is not a rot box anywhere else, this damage was restricted to the drivers side only, so what caused it? oh and yes that is the bottom of the carpet /sound deadening you can see through the holes.

hi

i seen some thing like that but it was in the the boot of a nissan PRIMERA when a battery fell over and leaked its acid

i was thinking battery acid too.

what about brake fluid, does that run down the drivers side to the abs or hicas?

Some good idea`s but not right yet.

Clue is the rot was from outside in not the other way around.

Ok guys, will put you out of your misery, the car had been repaired some 3 years previous after a front impact, unfortunately although the obvious damage had been well repaired a split in the underseal at the front edge of the floor had been missed and had allowed water to seap between the floor and underseal.

It had created a large flat ballon full of water sitting between the floor and the underseal, left unchecked it just ate the floor away.

Highlights the importance of underseal checks and repairs, body shop involved should have known better from experience.
