Difference between 068 and 088 batteries?

I want to replace the battery in my Z for the correct one. I bought a random one from Halfords 3 years ago and it's been fine. But, I want the correct size so that I can refit the battery cover and battery clamps.

068 and 088 batteries seem to be the ones for the Z...but, what's the difference between the two?

Wanting confirm that this sized battery will fit the Z battery cover.

255mm Long

173mm Wide

182mm Height

Want to try and find a black battery. Most are like red, white or blue or something!

Interesting...different sizes. 068 is the battery originally intended for the zed.

Thanks for that. Good price too. Main concern is, will the battery cover fit over it and the clamps be used?

not over the 068 from there as its 270mm so 5mm over, but might just fit on the 088.

How odd. So what is the definitive answer? What is the correct battery to use with the battery box?

When you say battery cover is this an aftermarket item? The 068 i have fits in the standard battery tray fine just wanted to make sure we're talking about the same thing.

No, the stock plastic battery cover that fits over the battery and the stock clamps.

What were you referring to?

See pic, although it's LHD, it uses the same plastic battery cover.

Didnt realise the zed had a battery cover as standard tbh, i've seen after market ones from Greddy etc this is what I thought you were refering to.

But in any case that 068 i linked to won't fit the battery cover you specified, whether this is an oversize one i'm not sure as the standard replacment part for the zed is an 068 is it not? Its all abit confusing for something so simple.

It is indeed. I really want to refit the battery box. I want to do a bit of an engine bay cleanup and want it back to an as-new look. So will be powdercoating everything that is currently black, grey or green all to a new black. With that, I want to fit the battery box to it. I want to get all his done before I get a brand new scuttle panel so I can just leave that area all alone.

Ah seems we have the same idea funkysi. Im looking at getting the battery box cover as well but was unsure if it was a universal or specific size cover. Ill be keeping an eye on this thread to see if any developments arise.

make sure the connectors are the right way round for your car

i had to take mine back and swap it for opposite connectors

as they do them both ways

It completely encases the battery with only the top of the battery visable.

BTT. Anyone? Really want to know what the exact sizes and model number to go for.

I can do, but then, the battery base doesn't sit flush with the cover base. You have another plastic battery tray underneath.

Confusing. I was under the impression 068 was the standard size replacement and is what most people must have.

My battery is just 184cm x 79mm x 169mm and definatly not the right size for battery tray, so I dont even keep it in the engine bay lol

The workshop manual lists a 65D26L for a Euro M/T which comes in at 260 x 173 Here, is your battery cover internal dimension 260 wide?

I don't know. I need to go and get it actually. It's an hour's drive away in my parents' garage where I store most of my junk.
