Hi all, Well , 7 months in to ownership and looks like iv'e hit my first proper issue with the Z !

Was on the way to get my tracking done after having 2 tyres and bushes replaced a week or so ago.

i started the car from home (cold) and set off for the garage with no issues. (7,mls from home approx)

When i was waiting at the lights just before the garage. -

I noticed the temp gauge was slightly above the normal position and was sitting right in the middle instead, as i was about to turn in to the garage at this point I thought will pull up and have a proper look. By the time i was in the car park (matter of second's) the needle was noticably rising from half way !

I instantly turned off and popped the bonnet couldn't see any water leaking out or steam etc. I then left the car off for a while to cool and went to explain to the garage. A good 15 mins later one of the guys from the garage came to have a look he instantly went to start the car

(wasnt to keen on the idea yet)

It started and temp was back at normal after giving it a few Rev's the temp gauge was off again rising from half way Quickly! .

(So instant switch off again).

My main concern was then how to get back (no AA ,Rac etc)

(So after trying various mates etc for help to no avail) - and letting the engine cool for a good 4 hrs i started it back up put the fans on full and set of home. The car drove fine all the way and didnt move from the normal temp once. So hopefully i haven't damaged engine. As im not hands on and it had a coolant change at nissan not long ago im gonna take it back to them

But if anyone can give me any pointers before hand, ie- certain checks to do to help eliminate things it can or cant be that would be a great help :D:D

'Could' be your viscous fan. On your way back, I guess you weren't stop-start and the engine got good airflow.

Just a thought.

yes Si , only the occasional stop at lights on way back while eng was still cold mostly 60/70 rd's etc so good air flow

I need to have a proper look tomorrow but it's booked in at nissan for a diagnose Monday

(bit worried on getting it there though !)

i know this will sound dumb but theres plenty of water in your radiator??? Might be worth topping up just in case!

I had it once filled it back up and never lost a drop since! Was random as i dont have a Water Leak but had no water!

Yep mine done the same and was the water pump which leaked only when it got up to temp. Stock needles are quite scary cos I was shocked too how quicly they go from normal to max in a matter of seconds :(

yep checked the levels all seem fine according to the book

(it also had a full change at nissan in nov:confused:), im thinking thermostat , pump or viscous?

Vijay -- i was amazed at how Quick it rose !! did you have any overheating issues prior to the pump?

Chris my moneys on a faulty sender or gauge with you saying no loss of coolant..also worth checking 1st then a sticking thermostate as to buy it wont break the bank:D..iff you want to bring it over sometime earlly next week let me know and ime sure its summit simple

Nope, it was the 1 and only time time it ever moved higher than the middle
