It seems to be almost mission impossible these days to sell a modified Z for anywhere near what it's worth (and by that I don't mean how much you spent on it). I'm not just reffering to mine here I've had a look through the for sale sectionand any decent Z with a sensible price is just not selling. Seems like people are only buying cheaper stock ones or sheds.

I'm wondering if when I do actually have to sell for real rather than putting it up for sale and not bothering if I get a buyer just yet. Would I get more money breaking it ?.

The shell is rust free, it's got so many goodies on it which I'm sure would sell.

I'm just thinking that it may be the easier option to break it rather than sell it.

Seems like the way forward these days don't you think ?

I'd break mine before I would wait 6 months to sell, saying that mines orange and may only appeal to certain people.

Surely it would break your your heart to dismantle it bit by bit after all the work that has gone into it ?

they are such personal things zeds....i guess the current crop of owners get more out of ownership from doing up their own rather than taking a finished / sorted one like yours stu....as you say its nowhere near what you've spent....mind you i bet its not specific to zeds...i'm sure all sorts of jap car owners have similar issues when moving on

It would, but then if I had to sell because I really needed the money and the car wasn't selling then there would come a point where I would get more money for selling the parts seperately than the car as a whole. I guess I should work out in advance how much I would be able to get for the parts, then either try selling the car for the same amount or break it !.

from a buyers point of view it sometimes makes sense to buy a standard car and then spend on it later as bits for the 300 are now a lot cheaper than 4-5 years ago......i still trawl the forums everyday for a possible 300 buy but for me its very specific in what id buy and with every summer that goes by you get 350z's and supra's that are a much better choice for a weekend bit of fun all down to just being a more reliable option....

in last 6-7months there's only been paul's and sgtc motors that took my fancy although yours and chris's are worth a look at

I think the problem is this line here....

What we are regarding as a sensible price and what the actual prices are in todays market are two different things.

I wish Zeds as stock were worth £10k + but reality is they are not. They are an old problematic car that require a lot of time and money and can be picked up for less than a grand in fair condition.

As a buyer I would be looking at £3k at the mo for a really mint one in manwel with leather and is a series 2.

A mint modified one like yours Stu I'd say £5k.

Thats looking at it in the world of reality, its not a knock on your car at all! two years ago would have been another story, but its not two years ago any more and people need to catch up with that fact :(

I'm thinking along the same lines, i'd probably make more putting mine back to stock and selling it off then sell the parts separately tbh.

It works out you'd get more, modified = thrashed and uninsurable in some people's eyes when in fact the modified cars usually have more love thrown at them than a stock car

I agree with you 100% even on the supra forum they are having the same disscusion. 2 years ago they were around the 10K mark for a TT and now you can get one for around the 4-5K only the single tubbys seem to fetch around 10K now :wack:

Now there's an Idea !.

Selling the parts with a Stock + £ = modified part option.

i.e. I'll sell you my modified bonnet for £50 + stock bonnet.

That may work well. But then Selling all the modified bits first, then the stock parts then selling the shell would probably also work.

As much as it hurts, you're probably right.

That's less than 10% I've put into the car, Economy sucks don't it.

But I guess the price of certain cars is driven by the people selling them. As long as we have people selling cheap 300zx's then the price of any 300zx is always going to be only a margin higher than a shed.

The way i see it it means the car is driveable the whole time and you can slowly get some money back out of it before you sell it for a stock price.

Only problem with it then is making sure you get the same colour body panel and with mine, the viper wings are bonded to the sideskirts which are going to mean a respray before sale.

I would love to buy your car, but for me it is about building the car up myself.

My shell went to the scrap yard yesterday after I had stripped it, I felt sad doing mine and I had not done that much to it, so I think it would be hard for you to break yours with the amount of work you have done to it.

My side skirts are also bonded to the wings. So the skirts would probably have to stay on the car. But then I also have a custom rear which was made to fit my exhausts. Since my exhausts are custom made, no one else is going to have the same exhausts as me. So therefore the rear bumper and the side skirts would probably have to stay. unless I sold the rear bumper with the exhausts.

I would be up for that :D

sounds like a usefull idea, how much do you want for your front hard pipes, i will swap you my rubber ones and say - £4

:)

well mine is going up for 5k, if it dont sell i will either keep or get the griner out and strip and sell it

fook this sentiment shite, i want hard cash and i will hack grind and cut off anything that anyone wants to make some cash

get it on a chav site, redline mag, fast car mag, max power mag all have website's with classified's

I think your right mate. To you its worth loads to anyone who is just after a car its worth no more than any other Zed.

My tuppence worth.....

Hang in there Stuart. Yours is indeed a fine Z - and that's coming from someone who prefers the stock look!

It may take some time but out there (somewhere) is a buyer who wants a car like yours. To buy a stock one and do the mods him/herself will cost a fortune so they would happily buy one (ie yours) already modded to their taste.

Good luck mate,

Richard:cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Its not often I agree with the Essex ganster but on this occasion I do.

Another fact the people need to catch up with is the price of s/h spares!

This too has dropped dramatically. There is an oversupply of spares now so prices are loads lower than 2 years ago. In contrast post/courier rates have continued to increase. So Its not always true that you will get more money breaking than selling as a whole.

if the very forum who supports these motors mince on about how litlle they are worth, no wonder they are going for peanuts
