As posted before, my auto box is fooked, I was driving down the Mway (about 70 ish) when the revs suddenly went up, I realised my overdrive had stopped working. traveled another 10 miles and pulled into a car park. Tried to reverse and it was like my back wheels had locked up and wouldnt reverse. couldn't go forward so had no choice but to wellie it and the car did move backward jerkily jumping off the ground I think something must have snapped inside the box. set off forward and 1st and 2nd gear sounded like 2 pieces of metal being rubbed together (a bit like the noise you would get if you had no brake pads and it was metal on metal) when it eventually got into 3rd (would only change by stabbing at the accelerator) it run fine. got to a mates house and checked the fluid level. was a little bit low so topped up. Tried reverse and nothing at all! no matter how much I revd the engine, left the car overnight then drove it 45 miles home, same problem with 1st and 2nd, normal running in 3rd. 3 days later needed to go somewhere urgent so drove the car, it kept stalling untill the engine was a bit warm. Now obviously there is something seriously wrong but would it be repairable with a recondition. Im having serious problems locating a box and realy dont want to convert to manual. can you still buy a brand new box from nissan? any help would be appreciated. Oh for a few weeks before I had a flashing power light on start up but didnt realise this was a diagnostic thing so never bothered counting the flashes.

Right the box has failed mechanically end of don`t beat yourself up about the previous warning flashes.

To rebuild the box now will be expensive as it will need what is termed a hard rebuild to include gear clusters, bearings and shafts , torque convertor as you will have damage to all of these now due to the amout of metal filing circulating in the fluid.

Auto box specialist

Soft rebuilds cost around £1,100

Hard rebuilds cost around £1,800

Good used boxes are available with a bit of research, but a warning who ever fits it needs to remove the cooler pipes and clean them out fully and fit a new cooler, failure to do this will result in a second damaged box, also buy a box that has the torque convertor with it, should cost way less than a full rebuild.

Hope that helps

Hi Fred

Can you let me know if you still want this?

No contact so obviously another reg user bites the dust!!

Only trying to help out (paid over £300 for it myself) but getting a little fed up with being messed around lately- must be 'credit crunch' syndrome!

Dave

I might be interested but couldn't buy until end of this month due to money. Is it easy to do? changing boxes? As i would be doing it myself.

I certainly wouldn't say it's easy, but it's relatively straight forward if your reasonabley practical, the main prob is the weight of the things, there fookin heavy! I have removed mine just the other day, got it done in about 5 hours completely on my own, but I have done it before... There's plenty of how to's and what not, plus all the help ya want from us lot... Best of luck anyways mate, chin up!!!
