I have recently had a 4 wheel laser align and my wheels balanced. I know my prop bearing needs to be replaced soon as that gives me a little shake through the drivers seat between 40-50 mph, but I am noticing a shake through the steering wheel which is something else. I have had enough zeds with knackered prop bearings to know what that feels like -and this isn't that kind of vibration. It almost feels like a buckled wheel (but I have just had them all balenced). I don't do mental breaking to warp a disc - I'm baffled.

Anyone got any ideas. It is most noticeable at an indicated 75mph (only doing 70mph according to gps officer before you tell me off for speeding).

The vibration is there at all speeds.

You'd only feel warped disks through the wheel on braking. You're saying it happens all the time?

If the wheels have been balanced and checked for buckling/flat spots, were the tyres checked as well? Have you also checked your track rod ends and tension rod bushings?

Si -Yep happens all the time (to a very small extent - maybe I'm being picky but I wan't it to be perfect). only really noticeable between 65-75mph but it is always there to a small extent.

Jaffa - my nuts are always tight and the tyre pressures are always good.

How old are the front tyres?

I don't know, The came with the alloys I bought of EdK209 but they had a good 5mm of tread - still probably have 4mm now.

I do have the 19" version of your wheels sitting in my garage waiting to go on (minus tyres) but don't want to fit them until the weather improves in the spring.

i have a vibration, 90% certain its the tension rod bushes, i will eliminate it with adjustable rose jointed ones

The thing with adjustable tension rods is finding somewhere to set it up. the place I get my laser allignment done doesn't have the details for that adjustment (what ever you call that adjustment caster/tow-in blah blah) and I don't want to get it wrong.

has always put me off adjustable set up ever since.

19" Advan Siena?

Well my UK tension rods went to poo and leaked oil everywhere and i had vibrations at speed and a creaking noise over speedbumps when the car was cold. I changed them for some Jap rods with polybushes in, its much better but still not right, and anoyingly it vibrates around 60mph, so a roads are a joy, lol

Similar if you're drunk maybe! LOL ;)

Nice looking wheel the Vortex. They are only cast mono-block, but still a pretty wheel. 19s will look good providing you have a good stance on it (offset/height). :)

Do the wheels have spigots to align them as many aftermarket wheels do.You may have one missing?.

I will check today - thanks for the advice guys.

I really like the Advan siena's especially the centres, but at approx 25lbs a piece for just the 18" wheels, they are more show than go... That's what my 19" wheels weigh.

I have a wobble as well lol!!

I have changed everything.

Upper adjustable arms and lower arms

Tention rods and track rod ends.

Also an excuse for ne ARB with adjustable droplinks.

There is now only one thing that i have not changed and it is the upper and lower bearings and kin pin on the suspention arm.

So i have got 2 of scrappers and both have the same amout of play.

Now the bad bit is only Nissan do them and mike can get hold of them for around £155

  • 2 months later...

did anybody ever find a cure for this, i noticed mine doing it last week for the first time, it vibrates through the steering wheel and quite worryingly veers to the right ever so slightly at around 70-80 ish, not noticable on anything other than motorways
