Hi all, as you probably know, I have been after a replacement speed sensor for an auto box, couldn't get one, so have repaired my own, dissmantled it, coil was ok, but the magnets had lost their magnetism, so re-magnetised them with a big magnet, put it all back together, and hey presto, works perfect! I'm chuffed, and ya never know, this may help somebody else with the same problem....

Good fix ! Maybe the magnets loose their strength over time due to the heat of the gearbox.

interesting!- just about to throw away the one I took out but will try this myself- did you just put a magnet on them? How long?

I'll get a write up for it soon, hope it'll help people out, it was my Dad that did it (I was taking the credit :-) so I'll speak to him and sort it out... Ya can get the speed sensor out by just jacking that side of the car up, but I lifted the front and put axle stands on, it's pretty straight forward, but a little awkward to get to the one 10mm bolt, it then just pulls out, easily do-able... The end cap of the sensor comes off, and i think you can just remove the coil etc. and i think just stroking a magnet over original magnets, always in the same direction should do it, more info to follow.... HTH.... Tudor.

It's on the passenger side by the way, near prop shaft end of the box, about 2 thirds of the way up, and the plug is sometimes stashed away above the box, the lead on it is about 10 inches long..... HTH.

Had them over over 10 years and they're still my favourite wheels ;)

Yeah they where the reason i fell for this Z, im really fussy, not many wheels i like.

Im after set of Kosei Snipers, but they stopped making them 4 yrs ago, grrr. :)

Tudor, can you just explain in a little more detail how to dismantle the actual speed sensor itself, i see no way of getting to the core to remagnetise it, the cog end thick steel rod wont come out and the other end with the wire is encased in solid plastic.

the Rod moves up and down too about 5mm, is that normal?

Cheers

I haven't seen my dad matey, but, have you taken the cog off? After take the cog off, you remove the other ends plastic cap, the one with the wire, it's pretty niggly i think, but with that off, the whole innards should pull out, shaft and all..... I think...

I will update this ASAP, but been massively busy lately, busiest (and most drunk) time for a musician, haha.... Happy new year everyone......
