As far as im aware its never been resprayed. Its nowhere near as metallic as say yours and marco's, but under direct light, as you can see, its got a deffinate metallic fleck in the paint

Marcos is deffo metallic. When ours are side by side, you can see the difference even from a distance

Very good job. If I can say something though, it's constructive critism.

You need to apply some TLC to the window strips. Against your now very shiny black car they look very light grey. I think if you dipped or renewed these it would finish the look of your car very nicely.

Looks good. Only just realised you have the old monoblock versions of my wheels.

More information on the alloy polish you used please.

The early black is metallic.

The later black Series 3 '93 onwards is a solid black.

When I bought my black car I thought it was supposed to be metallic and somebody did a cheap ass spray job with non-metallic paint.

After a bit of research I found out that Nissan did change the paint to non metallic for sure.

I know, theyve been like that since i bought it and it bugs the hell out of me, buts its the next thing on the list of things to do;). Cant decide whether to go satin black or use that plasticoat stuff

i like what you did under the bonet, very nice, what did you use to get in the crannies?

I did my best with cling film to cover up the coilpack and injector connectors, and then used small amounts of APC with the slimest nylon paint brush i could get my hands on to agitate it, and carefully rinsed. Seemed to work nicely

Here you are bud, its a liquid based polish as opposed to the wax ones like megs nxt tech metal polish and rimwax. you only need a tiny amount on a bit of soft cloth and it spreads really nicely

Someone obviously forgot to tell the sprayman when they got round to painting mine. Its a series 4, so i was expecting it to be plain old gloss. Sod knows what was going on there. But like i said earlier, its not an obvious metallic black. When you put mine and marcos side by side, his is so obviously metallic and mine "looks" gloss, its only close up in direct like can you see the metallic flecks

did they do the same thing with the silver? the bumper on mine is a shade off the rest of the car and its bugged me for ages

Sounds like the 'Brilliant' range of polishes I use. It is a liquid too rather than a paste. Wouldn't mind trying it out. 'Brilliant' is an excellent product, but I am always willing to try others.

Oh and cheers for the recommendation on Collinite, ace product!

Very nice Nick, feel free to come and show me how you do it on mine:D

Nice work mate. How did you practice with the polisher? I want to use one on my car but I am scared of doing more harm than good

Funny you should ask that. i used other peoples cars:mac1:

My mate owns a classic restoration place, so has alot of scap pannels lying around, so i started off on those. And to be honest its pretty easier than you think. As long as your patient and take your time, youll have no worries.

Take a read of this as well, it helped me understand the principles at the very least http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=63859

Cheers for all your kind comments guys

I think I will take the plunge next year when I take the car out of storage!

Nice one mate, I'm SOOOO jealous.

Anybody got a black Z they want to drive to Leicester for a polish? :D
