I'm installing 3 gauges and was intending on taking power from the clock/stereo.

However these go live when the ignition is at ACC meaning if I was listening to the stereo with the engine off the gauges would be on. Not a problem you may think but as the are peak warning gauges they start alarming as I have no oil pressure.

My question is - where can I simply splice into that is live only when the ignition is turned to the ON postion?

have you tryed the ON position on the ignition? LOL

That's a big wire to splice into.

I think I've found one now from looking at the wiring diagrams

poke around the oem stereo loom wires with a multimeter... there is one in that loom...

Stereo loom just has perm live and switched (ACC) live

theres one there somewhere... been a while since i installed my carpc but when i did i distincly remember finding power for both accessory positions. have you had a good prod?

do your gauges give an audible warning or just flash/illuminate? if they just flash then id leave them, at least it demonstrates that they are functioning correctly..

think they are acc1?.. thinking about it... try em.. they might be what your after. though im sure theres one in the centre somewhere. where r ur gauges?

just been playing with the electric windows (making passenger window one touch from drivers side) and have the diagram in front of me, they definatly have a feed from the "engine running " position

I've sorted it now. There's a green wire (M11/2D - if interested) that feeds the stock gauges with power and is live at ON postion. Perfect for aftermarket gauges.

get an electrical tester on the stereo wires.

got all my gauges off the cd player.

if you have aftermarket cd payer, usually have colour coded ISO block on there, work off that

its funny you dont want them on in acc1 position,

I wanted mine on at every stage of the key turn, i also didnt wire them into the lights because i like them bright.

Like I say if you wanted to sit in the car engine off listening to the stereo the guages would be on and beeping as there would be no oil pressure.

There's definately no wire at the stereo that becomes live when ignition switched "ON".

There's a perm live and a switched live when ign at "ACC"
