The latest episode from the Ring Banana is out… and talk about shocking (Pun intended). We all know that tyres has one of the biggest influence on the performance of a car, as they are the only thing that touches the ground. The Ring Banana set the base lap time of 9:21 around the Nurburg Ring, then knock 22 seconds off to 8:59 by changing out the 10 years old tyres to a set of semi-slick tyres. The goal of getting a sub 9 minutes lap around the Nurburg Ring with the 90 hp Mazda Miata / MX-5 was shattered on the first try. In an interests to find out how much difference will just the MeisterR coilovers make, they install the coilovers, do the alignment, and …

Is it just me or is the 14psi boost upgrade, not that much different? I've always run 9psi, today was my first run at 14psi. I have to say whilst it was noticeably faster it wasn't the night and day difference some report, I don't think I've gained 80hp or anything, my butt dyno says it running about 330-340 if that...

So following on from the earlier thread about the master cylinder we now will deal with the front caliper`s which are by far the most troublesome part of the brake system. Lost count of the front caliper`s I dealt with in my time that were either seized partially or fully !! of the four pistons in each caliper it is very common for just one or two to be stuck fast and this is why the brakes seem to work but just not great, and given that many owners have already been told the brakes are rubbish on zeds it gets accepted. So the biggest problem with stuck pistons is getting them out especially in DIY situation, however there is a way you can do it, slowly but …

Well after many years of trying to get one, I finally laid my hands on a genuine vintage Nissan dealership sign. To say I'm chuffed to bits is an understatement! The 20+ year old sign measures 120cm by 85cm and will take pride of place on the garage wall above the car. It will look amazing! Here is a somewhat larger one of the same design used at the US launch in Chicago back in 1989. That one was backlight and I will do the same.

Ok a little light reading for Thursday, we all know prevention is the best way forward with service items and but many times those little warnings are too subtle or just missed as little annoyances or the character of the car and the 300zx brakes is a case in point. So two points, the master cyliner and the front calipers these are the two area`s where most problems occur in the breaking system and are often overlooked as the cause at the time, of course ensuring no air is in teh system is a biggy too. So we will deal with the master cyliner in this thread and the calipers in the next one, the bmc is so easy to service ( kit part number shown in picture for Tw…

I need to upgrade my battered tweed interior to leather, and wondering how easy is it to DIY with purchasing the kits, there are several companies in the US / Canada supplying kits, not neccassary any cheaper than getting it done by upholsterer here, but quality is not necessarily assured. If I do go done a DIY route, how easy / difficult is it to remove the door panels, dash board bits etc. Also removing the tweed from the seats, panels and gluing leather bits etc. Any tips and experiences good or bad will be appreciated.

The time is approaching that I need to replace my tyres.... (the tyres on at the moment came with the wheels I purchased last month) The wheels are the 18" staggered ones from a 350z ( I believe they are the touring model?) My question is, what would be the best tyre size to replace the current 225 45 18 at the front and 245 45 18 at he rear? I feel that the profile is too big at the mo and was thinking maybe either 40 or 35 all round? If so, would that cause any issues with the wheels? also, the fronts currently look to have a little stretch on them and whereas the rears don't? In my opinion the fronts look a little nicer but I'll open it up to suggestions....…

As the engine is back together and in the car, can it be replaced without removing the retainer it sits in? I really don't want to be disturbing the seal around the sump if I can help it.
