Hee hee - I do! (sort of) What's your problem mate?? If it's the self learning mode, you can probably forget it - most people seem to think the Z being a TT won't use it properly. Email me privately if you need my number. Cheers! RobH

Gearbox oil
Hi, Can anyone recommend a good grade/brand of gearbox oil for Z32 TT Manual please?? TIA, RobH

Auto -> Manual
Hi All, Got most of the parts I need for a conversion now and just wondered about a couple of things... Is there a definative 'how to' on the conversion available anywhere?? I've done the usual searches and come up with very little. Can I use the standard Auto braking components (master cylinder etc) or do I need some more bits from a manual?? I have the manual pedal box. Will I have to get a new/replacement spigot bush? Cheers!! RobH

Konrad, are the extra parts on top of your £1400?? What's Luke's waiting time like at the mo'?? SE are £1000 inc. according to AndyP. I'm waiting for Johnny to get back to me with a price. Cheers RobH

Yes Roy, we had the same problems. I did find though, that if I screwed the nuts off it in second (up to 7000 rpm) and then shut the throttle off, the tacho needle often bounced up to 2000rpm and it had slipped into third, I'd then put it in hold and trundle along in third/lock until I had to stop for a junction etc... If it is a solenoid problem I have/had then it's probably due to some debris interfering with operation. This is without a doubt the one and only time I will buy an auto - only bought it 'cos manuals were thin on the ground and mine was cheap/tidy. I have to say it's a laugh though when you boot it at 60mph :-P Cheers!! RobH

RIP autobox
Hi All, Took my Z to an auto specialist (Chester Automatic Transmissions) - fair play, it's a good place and they know what they're on about. They do a lot of work on Z autos, had another one in besides mine. Anyway, they reckon it's lunched, fluid was almost black, leaking seals, magnet swamped by fine particles, aluminium streaks in the fluid odd bits of metal. I only took it in to have solenoids replaced :'( Going manual now :-) as they want £2000+ to replace the autobox. Anyone know where I can get this done (apart from SE - too far and don't have £1000 to spend!!) I have a brand new 90 Jap auto three solenoid kit (shift A, B and LP) and tranny pan bolt set if anyone's interested - cost me £150+ and was a special search and order... £100+post anyone?? I guess Nissan may take it back for a restocking charge anyway... Cheers!! RobH

Goosehonk - the answer!!!
I have to say that I had the dreaded honk both before and after fitting Blitz SUS induction...I have noticed the honk to coincide with a lull in power delivery. Cheers!! RobH

Tubes coming off downpipes
Hi All, I'm getting a replacement exhaust system from Top Gear. They are doing the whole system in stainless including front pipes (good price too!). The guy was on about not being able to do the actual downpipes 'cos they have some tubes coming off so they leave these in place and sleeve the new pipes just in front of where the cats used to be. Are these tubes the AIV connectors?? Can they be safely removed? I'd sooner have the whole thing in stainless if possible. TIA! RobH

HKS spark plugs
Hi All, TTim, you sure they're not NGK Iridium IX's mate?? I know you had a set off me about 4 months ago... I was thinking of getting another batch. I was doing 'em for £50 all in using special delivery. LMK if anyone's interested again... I've been running 'em in mine for about 6 months - really noticed the difference when I changed over but then I was using crappy standard nickel plugs (in my TT when I bought it). No probs except my crappy autobox >:-( Cheers! RobH

NZR - Goin Free Fishin
Is it stiff or whippy? (i.e. boat road or spinning rod??) Any brand names on rod/reel please?? I'm interested if it's a boat rod - not so for a spinner... Cheers!! RobH

another dead f****** zed
That's about it yep ;-) Remember not everyone wants to get involved with their engine though.... they have a voltage checker which they attach to the coilpack and will prob disconnect your fuel line and check for flow from the filter... I never said they were scientists ;-) Cheers! RobH

another dead f****** zed
if you're handy with a multimeter I believe there's some tests you can do for resistance through the PTU - not done them myself so can't really advise...sorry, a search should reveal something though. Fuel sounds pretty good bet if it's kicking occasionally. Might be worth joining the AA today (homestart) and having a problem with it tomorrow morning :-P they can check the ignition and fuel for you - even tow it to a garage for you.... Cheers! RobH

Z31 insurance and seats
Hi all, Does anyone know if the front seats from a Z31 will fit in a Z32?? Might be able to get a good 'un at a good price. Any other useful bits interchangeable?? What turbos did the Z31 have installed? Is classic insurance available for a 1987 Z31?? Cheers + TIA!! RobH

Done TPS volt test........
Coils sounds good to me... Just pull em off in turn to find the dodgy one...you might want to check your plugs while you're at it - might be something as base as that... Cheers! RobH

Done TPS volt test........
From what I can make out, the TPS actual voltage returned isn't important. What's important is that it increases at the correct rate up to the max... The ecu must calibrate itself against the TPS after a reset hence so long as your voltage starts low and builds steadily to high then the throttle will read 0% - 100%... the ECU makes a compensation. Just my 1/8th of a p Cheers! RobH

dashboard explained
Dunno about the light on the dash but if the engine is turning over without a spark you should check the PTU and connectors - especially if it's a series 1 PTU (the silver one with cooling fins) and you're over 60K. Have you tried the ECU diagnositcs?? I had a problem with the engine not turning over when I tried to start the other day. I'd been rooting around the electrical connectors though and the HICAS connector had come apart, worth checking what you can see, particularly if you've been under the bonnet recently... Cheers! RobH

Autobox f*cked
OK, what I've found out is that the solenoids in a Jap are different to those in a UK. Please see other post as RobZed for part numbers. Courtesy are VERY expensive for the jap parts... Cheers! RobH

Failed autobox diag - help!
Got the price for the 3 solenoid kit from Courtesy - $338.40 +shipping etc, a lot more than the UK unusually. Part number for a Jap 1990 is 3194041X13 £127+vat UK is 3194041X04 (I think!) sump pan gasket is £18.90+vat (!!!) and bolt kit is £6.30+ Ah well.... Cheers! RobH

Failed autobox diag - help!
OK, thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure all the sensors check out OK as I have an AVC-R which shows me throttle, speed and revs - they all look good so I'm assuming there is a good signal getting to the ECU. Solenoids it is then... Unfortunately my mechanic can't do the work until weekend after next - looks like I'm stuck doing 50mph at 4000rpm for a while yet :-( Cheers! RobH

replacing Autobox solenoids
Hi All, I'm trying to get a replacement autobox three solenoid kit for my 1990 Jap TT Auto. Courtesy are dragging their heels a bit and Nissan UK have provided a part number (3194041X04) but I can't be sure it's correct. Can anyone who's replaced these (Anders?) provide a part number please or acknowledge that the Jap Autobox is the same as the UK one?? TIA! RobH

To all those peeps with goosehonk!
Hmm...sounds like Big Roy isn't using recircs anymore - the whole point of 'em is to dump the excess back into the system to fill the vacuum left when the throttle snaps shut (AFAIK). If Roy isn't dumping back into the system he's using them as BOVs - replacing recircs with BOVs is known to fix the honk problem... Harve - which reservoir are you removing condensation from?? My honk seems to come and go with the weather - maybe it's my driving style that changes in the damp/dry and affects it. It certainly doesn't honk now I'm stuck in second gear - LMAO!!! BTW for all those with autobox shifting problems (like me) - I can't get that blasted Rembrandts Friends theme out of my head - you know the one, 'It's like I'm always stuck in second gear'.....etc LMAO!!!

Insurance by Elephant
I got quotes from both Tesco and Elephant - both were appalling. Jap 90 TT auto, parked on street, 4 years no claims etc. Best I could get was Norwich Union Direct for an unmodified Z - about £700 TPF+T, when I started doing mods I moved to A-Plan - they are the best by miles for modded Jap import cars. I pay slightly more than I did at NU but I'm now fully comp, have SE chip, boost controller, exhaust and intake mods - still a massive rip off but that's insurance I guess.... A guy I know was trying to insure a Mitsubishi Pajero (Shogun import) and couldn't get a quote under £1000 - Aplan were £300!!! Cheers! RobH

Outside Temp guage
OK, changed my mind - mine hit -1 degree this morning. Temp can't have dropped below 0 previously The warm air around the engine must increase the reading when the car's been driven and then left standing. Air temp in the engine bay drops gradually when you start moving again. I've had mine reading 23 degrees when its not been far from freezing outside... Cheers! RobH

300zx TT for sale, Xmas giveaway - £1950 !!!
Hey Chris! Sorry you have to get rid. Whereabouts in Chester are you?? I'm in Newtown - that ain't yours that parks nearby is it?? Can't access your pics - is it a black-un?? Have you thought of splitting it? Sure you'd make a killing on parts - I could do with the full manual gearbox/pedal box/clutch etc etc... Cheers!! RobH

Outside Temp guage
I think they give up at 0 degrees, mine doesn't go any further. Cheers! RobH
