  1. Its been a busy few weeks for several reasons, but mixed into the middle of it all was some serious work on the Z. Theres a few spots that are letting the bodywork down, not surprising for a 90's Jap car really, even this '99 is 17 years old after all. Got an arch repair panel for the worst side, These cover the whole arch but luckily only needed a small section actually needed replacing Piece cut from the repair panel and removed from the arch, and some removed from the inner panel too New piece welded in After the first round of filler and some paint, the shape is looking pretty good but it still needs some work After some more work and a quick coat of purple, thats this one good enough to go to the bodyshop The other side was not quite as bad, only needed a small piece removing (took the photo before tidying the inner panel on this side) Again, after welding, a bit of fill and paint, this one has the shape back and is ready for proper painting Finally onto a few bubbles in the front arch, luckily this one was not so bad but would only have gotten worse, so the paint and a few spots of rust came off, back to clean metal No welding needed this time. The car is booked in with the paint guy in a few weeks time. Hopefully I'll get chance to clean up and refresh the undersealing before then. Looking forward to having those big nasty jobs done and some shiny new paint...
  2. This is what I did, I couldnt get a joggler in to do the section I wanted to though, but if you can do that it does make the job a lot easier Plenty of youtube videos on that subject. Almost certainly, it might take a while to break through new paint over the top but it will happen after a while. (I'll upload my pics tonight)
  3. I've done some work on mine recently, I'll be uploading some photos of it soon. I don't have anywhere near as many as in that link, but they are of a Z so might be some help.
  4. A few more updates... So, with my large feet I was having some issues catching bits of the plastic hanging down near the pedals, seems this might have been down to the "professional" alarm install. I took the panel off under the steering column and the alarm control box just fell out, not secured in any way, just wedged behind the panel. There was also a relay hanging down, still attached to its bracket. If anyone wants to tell me what its for that'd be great, but I ditched the bracket and cable tied the thing in place Tidied up a load of the alarm wiring, cable tied the control box in place and put all the vent plastics back, and now no more catching feet Also did the clutch pedal adjustment whilst I had things out. That and some new brake fluid has made the car much nicer to drive. Been having a few issues with the lighting too, so I pulled out the main beam bulbs and instantly saw why. Also rewired some of the HID connectors that were a bit lose and still had issues, so I got a pair of new ballasts and now the headlights work fine Plus, the new ballasts are about 1/2 the size and weight of the old ones! At some point its had the sidelights moved into the indicator housings, whilst I do kinda prefer the look it was done at the cost of the foglight, so I swapped it back to standard for now so I have a full set of front lights Onto the back end, the bulb out warning light has been going off since i bought the car, and that is the kind of thing that annoys me quickly, It was becasue the inner brake lights had been chopped and rewired for the fog lights, I guess probably by the importer. Now me, I love the massive rear brake lights, its a real feature of the 300, so that had to go back to standard (I'll worry about wiring in a fog light somehow later, I'm thinking maybe two of the reverse lights) And, finally for ths update, the first actual "mod" You ever get the feeling you're being followed??? I love how these look on the car, the "Titanium Bronze" really works well with midnight purple imo. I need to get the car clean and break out the proper camera at some point...
  5. Nope... No connection whatsover.
  6. I'm guessing most of it will get blamed on the owner before Baz, who's conveniently not on the forum... :D
  7. Close, a bit more like a cousin who didnt get all the toys? ("R" spec and Twin Turbos :D)
  8. First set of jobs was to make the drive a bit nicer, starting with an offcentre steering wheel. I'll get it tracked once the new wheels are on, but for now I just moved the wheel one notch round back to almost straight. Then onto the ICE. I'm guessing this cars had an install in the past thats been removed. The headunit was a bit loose, and if I pressed it too hard it turned itself off  The speaker setup was also 'interesting'. The passenger door speaker has torn and been glued back together (which didnt hold) The drivers door speaker was a smaller aftermarket one with some heavy duty wiring that didnt work at all. I found the aftermarket wires were just wound up under the sill covers and not connected to anything..! So, In have gone new speakers front and rear, and a new headunit removing the mass of bullet connectors I also "fixed" the clock by simply plugging it back in  Whilst all the center panels were out I also tightened up the shfter, replaced the knob with a factory one and treated the car to a new pair of gaiters in alcantara. Whoever put the current gaiters on had got them mixed up, handbrake was on the gear shift and vice versa. Confused the crap out of me, I nearly sent mine back thinking they were wrong  I plan to get the handbrake and the steering wheel recovered to match the gear knob at some point to really finish off the controls.
  9. Yep, for a while. It looked a bit different though, lowered and with nicer wheels.
  10. 1999 Nissan Fairlady Z (2016-08-29 21:36:01)
  11. Back at the start of the month I picked up a new project. (Gallery of full size pics Here) Drove straght down to Wales after work and arrived back home early on Thursday morning with it. Ok, so 2am is not the best time to be taking pics :D. Heres a few more in daylight. She's a JDM '99 NA in midnight purple, has already had a manual conversion and a few extras (EGR delete, HID's, Japspeed exhaust) but is in need of a bit of tidying up (and some turbos :D)
  12. Oh yeah. I put that in the shed and forgot about it...
  13. Yeah, I've had a look through some of his threads. There's some nice pics in there. I've already got ideas, now I need to figure out why there is no AC drive belt on and why the reverse lights don't work...
  14. Yep, I was chatting with a local paint guy last night, so that'll happen fairly soon. TT will hopefully happen later in the year. Not that I know of, but I guess its possible. It was imported by Craig David (Tim?) and then Baz had it for a while. Its got plenty of receipts from Zedworld and still has a sticker under the bonnet :)
  15. After some years of having Yowser always raving about Z's, I decided to get one and see what he was on about. Some of the regulars here might recognise it... I plan to start a progress thread soon, but i thought it was probably time to say hi seeing as I've had it nearly three weeks.
