anyone replaced a det sensor/lume?
Best place for the knock sensor is where Nissan put it. Next best is a proper relocation job. That's better than the resistor job which just fools the ECU into thinking the det sensor is good. Resistor bypass is OK for temp solution until you solve the problem. Long-term it means you won't detect detonation which could be very expensive! Relocation write-up here http://www.angelfire.com/geek/vg30dett/DSR/DetSenRel01.html Experience from people with all methods here http://www.zcar.com/forums/782735/relocated-knock-sensor interesting to note comment that some ECUs have problem with bypass resistor method. Import number plate size??
erm sorry to be nitpicky but I don't think you can fit UK letters on a J-spec rear bumper plate if you have a full reg mark (I don't) and want to keep fully legal spacing and margin all-round. I would nip out and check but my car's up on a ramp somewhere. When/if I get it back, I'll check and report back. But I think that's why they let you have the smaller font on JDM (at least in a recess). The fitting of small font plate on the front is down to interpretation of this "accommodation" "preclude" definition. Even though a smile and a copy of the regs has helped me get away with it so far, I still keep full size in the boot juuuust in case :)

Driving uncovered,,,
You won't find anything that says "it's illegal to drive without a bonnet". What you will find is http://www.lawcentres.org/support/knowledgebase.php?article=88 and RTA http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1991/ukpga_19910040_en_2 Driving a vehicle with engine exposed, you'd be hard put to prove in court that this wouldn't involve a danger of injury to any person. Or that a competent and careful driver wouldn't say it was obvious it was dangerous. And that's whether you're going 50 feet or 50 miles.

Import number plate size??
And here's the actual regulations which say It's fairly clear that if you need a smaller plate to get your plate into a recess (eg JDM back bumper) you're OK. But using small letters/font on the front? "precludes" or "accommodates"? Up to how nice the PC or MOT people want to be, it seems.

Import number plate size??
effing upload limits effing Lexmark cheap scanners effing rubbish Abby Fine"sprint" pdf software. Anyhow, here's the doc from the DVLA with the regs that for some reason they dropped from their website. I carry a copy in the glovebox just in case. Also MOT rules http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_630.htm It all comes down to what the MOT station or PC understands by "cannot accommodate standard size numberplates". I had to show my MOT station these regs and argue politely a bit before they gave in. DVLA Number plates 3.PDF

Choice between 3 german taxis and something with the genes of the best V8 muscle car in the world? No choice really.

sluggish performance
Where to start? If anyone gives you a glib answer, smell the bull. These are immensely complex cars. Basic check is to do an ECU diag http://www.300zx.org.uk/diagnostics.htm The performance from even a stock TT is phenomenal even for a 20 year old car so if you think something is "sluggish", something's wrong either with it or your expectations.

Sounds like Jeff's right, then.

Indicator Stalk Query
The original indicator lights have kerb illuminators which come on a) when you indicate if b) your lights are on http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=140908&highlight=sidelights

Indicator Stalk Query
What's a Series 2.5? Series 2 is '92/8 - '93/9 Series 3 is '93/9 - '94/10.

Indicator Stalk Query
Ahhh, that makes sense. Hi Jeff. I think that kerb lighting is from S3 onward. At least mine's got it and it's an S3. Phutumsch, what Series is yours?

Indicator Stalk Query
Is that for UK or JDM, Vinz?

How does dip/main work on UK cars? I'd check my J-spec outside but it's still in the bloody garage in Essex.

Sidelights - what's wrong with them.
erm, he did "The sidelights on the corners in the indicator unit don't come on with the sidelights" so he'd already spotted the real sidelights and also these strange extra ones on the corners. Anyhow, just part of the fun of owning something out of the ordinary :D I like the way the "you've left your keys in the ignition" ping tone is almost the same as the radar ranger in Discovery's pods. Well, with my avatar, I would, wouldn't I? Let's see if I can find a wav for you... here you go http://www.palantir.net/2001/tma1/wav/track.wav - well maybe not very close but a bit :)

Another problem. Boo :o(
No idea but there is a proper workshop manual online here http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi and (in sections matching the manual sections) a tech index here http://www.300zx.org.uk/tech_00.htm

Sidelights - what's wrong with them.
On some series, that's the desired effect. They're like riding lights. Confused the bejasus when it happened on my S3. Didn't happen on the S1. According to Mr F, it's quite common in J land and some US cars - when your normal lights are on, when you indicate, these lights come on to illuminate the inside of the corner so you don't whang your spoiler on the kerb.
