  1. Front wings with vents are used allot by drifters... 3 reasons really 1. After all the lock mods, the wheel sits further out than stock - to keep it legal for the road and looking good at the track you need wider wings to compensate. 2. metal ones bend in when you have a bump - sharpe metal will pop a front tyre. for good grip most drifters run good rubber on the front (even on missile cars!) 3. The vents allow tyre fleck and scrub to fly out. Handy as it's nasty cleaning it off the inside after it cools lol. You scrub front tyres like crazy on some tracks (Birmingham wheels is a biggy, It nearly trashed a set of brand new Toyos!) :( plus 4 - in many peoples opinion (mine inc) they look awesome and I guess they do save some weight (negligible if you ask me, Nissan wings are light)
  2. Looking cool :D that engine is so clean it's epic
  3. Hi baz... I've herd of S14 guys swapping to an S13 handbrake set up, because the S14 one sucks... but I've never herd of anyone using a Z32 handbrake set up (in 4 years hanging around drifting im sure I would have herd?). Is it possible you are thinking of upgrading to Z32 rear calipers? which are better than S-body ones, and with a hydraulic handbrake would be an improvement? I was talking about the mechanical handbrake you see. I will fit a hydro eventually, but if I can get away with a stock mechanical wand then I'd be happy, I don't want to cut up the interior straight away lol Good news on the diff... means I have 3 spares and I can play with ratios! Cool sounds like an RB box. that's awesome news, It means I bought a car for close to what the gearbox is worth! As for NA vs turbo... I'm going to see how the NA is. the plan is to make her handle well, stop better and get a shed load of lock. plus make her lighter. More power is my last goal. Plus the less power you learn with the better you are once you step up the Ftlbs. Budget isn't too bad. I do all my own work which helps a great deal. I know I'll miss turbos you see. I would be looking into some solutions to keep the engine bay clutter down and keep things simple. I've been talking to a friend who I've just helped Turbo his Camero. We bought a kit from the USA. Single turbo located at the back of the car... could really cut down the pipework and stuff! That's a project for next year though for sure. Thank you very much!
  4. As per the title really. I'm looking for extra lock on my 300. It's a high budget (for me!) build and I was considering geomasters (posh hehe) but they don't do them for Z32s They do them for R32/33 and S-bodies though. If the Z32 is the same as a R32 (and it looks like it is) then bonus. I can just buy a skyline set up! If not I need to think harder and I figure my options are: Mod the Z32 hubs (are they made of aluminium? I've read they are) cut up a set of £500 geomaster hubs like Matt Samual did (no way am I doing this!) Swap to a S-body McPherson set up (I need to buy coilovers so this may be doable as I could spec them to be Z32 tops and S13 bottoms). a bonus here is a big weight saving. the down side is the double wishbone set up on R/Zeds seems better for lock and altering camber Thoughts please
  5. odds are I'll be there with my mate ben :)
  6. What a fantastic reply and bloody quick! I like this forum allot already! :D again amazing reply - so so much of what i needed to know! - - - Updated - - - £47 seems allot for a battery? Ideally I'd like a small one, I'll be doing battery to boot asap :)
  7. to be honest i doubt i'd be much good for totb. I'm better at drift than grip, and i doubt a nasp will be quick enough to impress! lol... I do want to do some big shows, Trax is one of my faves as it's so varied. I'm looking at japfest2 and japshow as well
  8. It was slightly... he wanted £900 and i took £700 in cash, it's bloody spotless underneath too! I just need to learn more about them, I'm also planning some cool mods to save weight but keep it sensible. If i can get it down to R33 weight levels I'd be happy, thats less than 100kg i think I don't know a thing about the different specs and stuff, I know it has a body kit im not a fan of! lol Well Matt Sam' does well in his, I'm hoping it'll be allot like my R33, well planted but predictable, I can't see it haveing the transition properties of a 13/e36, but thats fine, I can correct that with a heafty clutch kick! my hope is it to be an R33 with more torque and without the expensive RB oil issues! I thought it was! 110kms on the clocks so thats what 65/70k miles... full service history and no rust under it and only cosmetic stuff in the engine bay (I'll be yanking the motor for a tuck/smooth and paint anyway) I havent seen one in chesterfield yet, just a nasp R33. But i've only been here for 3 months! Who are you on fb? I'm Adam Bainbridge
  9. is there a reserve list yet?
  10. Adam-Murse Stand Pass Mark ------------ 1 (huh?) Are they running drift what ya brung? Are 350zeds welcome
  11. Talking to my mate (who has a 350z) and we were planning on going to Trax. Will there be a 300zx stand? Also, will the club be doing any other big shows? I'm still learning my way around the forum so I do apologise if I've missed something obvious!
  12. Thank you keymeister :) I've ment to nock on his door for 2 years now, I assumed it would be either an Auto, broke or rusty... as it was neither I was well chuffed at £700!
  13. Yeh I just moved to chesterfield 3 months ago for uni. I'm from Teesside originally which is where the car was found! £700 with a load of spares. It needs a service and MoT by the looks of it. It's also the cleanest Nissan Import I've ever seen. It was only on the road in the UK for 1 summer! It should be down here soon with luck, fancy a meet up? I know loads about S/Rs but nothing about Zeds really! Nasp Manual. I'll look into turbo conversions, I can do one at home easily, no rush though to be honest. I've been skidding and driving a e36 for 6 months now, so this will feel loads better! Thank you! Great to have such fast and welcoming replys!
  14. By the way I'll be buying the Filters and stuff from Chris at Conceptua unless someone tells me otherwise. Me and chris have a long standing relationship!
  15. Hey guys. Right, time to return this 300zx to life. In red are the areas I really need help. Car is a NASP Manual Heres the back story: Drove onto a guys drive. Parked up. Sat for 7 years and not moved (no idea of the Handbrake was on or not). I put a battery on it and it fired up no bother (drove it 300yards on tickover and turned it off). Only issue to report is a bad idle. Brakes weren't really seized. I now plan to service the car and MoT it. What I plan on doing for Mot: So far I've bought a cheap oil filter and some 5/30w oil from Asda. These are literally to put in the car for it's MoT. It will be trailered to the MoT station. Once it's passed I'll put good oil in. Does this sound sensible? I need to buy a new battery. Could anyone please tell me which battery I should buy (I don't mean what make. I mean so I get one that's the right size with terminals in the right place). What I then Need to do so I can drive it back to Uni! (The car is 120 miles away at my mums house) Good Engine oil (recommendations please) and filter. Fuel Filter (is there just the one in the engine bay?) Gearbox Oil (Same as skyline gearboxes? I have some of that in the garage) Air filter (s)... I couldnt see them due to their placement. Now I have a carbon enclosed cone sat in my loft, and I also have a HKS mushroom filter. I know these wont give me any BHP gains (and may sap some) but If I can save money on buying OEM filters and gain some nice noise then great - so are their any links on how to fit them (the 300's OEM set up looks crazy!)... I doubt I'll have problems here mind). What I'll do in the near future Diff oil - see my question below! Break/clutch fluid swap (when I fit my braided lines) Can anyone see any other issues I may need to address? The obvious one that i wonder about is - binding brakes... The car drove ok, just noisy brakes (surface rust sound) the car certainly wasn't held back by the brakes anything else? Mod's I'd like to know about Will S-body/R-body Diffs fit? and is the 300zx diff a better type of LSD than S/R bodys... I will be fitting a welded diff you see. Too anyone thats drifted a 300. How good is the oem handbrake? are we talking s13 (good) or s14 (bad)? Thanks everyone!
  16. Hey guys. Time to say hi on a new forum! If any of you are on DW, have had a skyline or a S-body then you may know me :) I was ready to drive back to uni yesterday and saw a gentleman leaving a house where there has been a 300ZX parked for the last 7 years! I decided to take the plunge and ask him if it was for sale.... Bought it by accident then and there lol. Thats one of my old S13s, so rotten it's just not safe anymore, even as a drift car. So we stripped it. Many questions I have about the Zed, I'll post them in the right section, and be ready for a good project thread! :D - Adam
