Managed to do some work on the poor old zed the other day, installed the fmic and fired her up only to be greeted by a loud tapping as she's running, it increases speed with the revs and sounds like it's coming from the top of the engine to the rear near the firewall. She was running fine before nice and smooth , just a little smokey from the pcv valves. Not been run for about two months now, any ideas?

I've been looking at XXR 527s 18X9.75 alloys and think they'd look rather good on the car. Has anyone got a pair with decent pics and advice on the a good tyre size to run? Or similar wheels?

Waiting for a decent one is key. It's so tempting to fall in love and want to buy it then and there and overlook problems. Another bit of info if like me you've not driven rwd before owning one, this is a BIG step up from a celica and can't be driven in the same manner, I still have my celica which is very quick in the corners and sticks to the road like glue. Try and do it in the zed and you'll probably need a new pair of trousers/car, TRC is on my shopping list next!

Are you running no recircs or bovs Noel?

Mine came with Turbo XS bovs. Apparently they're meant to be very loud, but all I've heard is a small chirp when shifting, but I've not really driven her that much. They also have no washers in the spring assembly which is weird. Car is off the road until the summer where they'll go back on with my fmic. Can't comment on the stock recircs as I've not had them :p

I've managed to bodge the intercooler, waiting for the resin to dry before I try it. Not that I'll use it on the road, just to see if she runs nicely so I can drive her onto some ramps when they arrive. The godspeed fmic looks decent, anyone using one? The bumper is certainly fiddly to get off too :p

As she'll probably be off the road for a bit now as I'm going to try and sort her out good and proper

The bracket holding the intercooler snapped and punctured the plastic bit then it's rattled about and wrecked itself. I'm thinking along the lines of whilst I have it apart upgrade it and go from there, there's quite a few bodge jobs which I have to sort out aswell, mainly wiring. I do like the look of the 99 spec with a front mount, but as said there's loads of different opinions as to what's 'best' Thanks Mondo I'll bear your standards ones in mind too just in case.

Split intercooler is the problem! Now go for a front mount or uprate the sides?

Well I need some low entry car ramps for Christmas as she's too low for my ramps and my low profile jack! Didn't think she was that low, as she struggled to get on the tow truck yesterday should of been a sign for me.

When I say pothole, I suppose meteor crater would be the correct term. The car was pulsing the idle like that itself, I've had it on the celica and it was the exhaust o2 sensor. It's probably air related as a few of you have said, there's just a fair few sensors and pipes on this big ol engine which I'm not familiar with yet so I guess the learning begins now. As soon as she's running right again I'll need two new tyres and an alloy, drivers side sill has cracked on the weld join where it was replaced and the door doesn't shut. Not the best start to my zed ownership but at least it's fixable and I didn't crash!

I know, I'm not too pleased. However it's probably for the best, it's certainly a very lively car in the wet and I'm going to take it off the road for a bit, tidy her up and probably get her out when the weathers better. Still got the celica to drive about in.

Oil gauge is disconnected as I have an aftermarket, oil pressure is decent. I've got all weekend to diagnose it, need to source new alloy though as it's cracked :( Was too cold/dark to look properly, your right though it's not boosting great.

Hi guys, thought I'd post up before I start investigating tomorrow. Hit a huge old pothole and bottomed out, car is running very rough, hunting idle, running rich and spewing black smoke under acceleration. Got no EML, I have a laptop and consult to plug in if that helps? I have a theory its an o2 sensor but not 100% Have a video of it here, 1993 UK TT. [video=youtube_share;BfdhPPOynj8]

Ah the second one sounds the same as mine, full beam turns it off. Thanks for that Gary I'll have a look tomorrow

Picked this little beauty up the other day. Loving her so far, I'll start a mod/progress thread soon, as I have done with my previous cars. One little niggle I can't work out, sometimes the rear fog light stays on? The light in the dash will come on without me having pushed the button, I've removed the bulb at the moment but the light still comes on. A common fault?

I'm looking at spending upto 5k really for a decent one. I'm not going to go for a dog that requires tonnes of welding, engine work etc as I don't know these cars as in depth as I do my celica. I'm not afraid to get stuck in and do bodywork repairs, change out worn components etc as I enjoy tinkering and learning in detail about the cars. Hopefully I can find a decent example that needs a few bits doing to it to keep me occupied :) Looking forwards to sapping you all for info (when I'm paid up of course filthy freeloader :p) I'll try and keep it fairly standard, I'm not going to chase huge HP numbers I have a conservative 400 in mind and understand these cars can take huge chunks out of your wallet at any given time.

Oh boy I hate doing these ' I'm new' threads, but here we are! I've been a member over on CCUK for a few years, having had 2 celicas, I'm currently still in possession of my very rare TRD Sports M celica which I do love. I want to come and play with the big boys now, mostly Mondos fault as he's been teasing us all over on CCUK with his zeds. I've had a look at a few and have my mind set on getting one, couldn't bear a boring car that all other 'petrol heads' at my age tend to go for either, e.g Focus ST etc. More than happy to get a zed that needs a bit of TLC as some of them are older than me :laugh: Or I'd be happy with a pampered one I can make my own. Hope to be on here for a while when I do finally find 'the one' You all seem to be nice and knowledgeable like the CCUK lot too. And a pic of my current...
