You can take a hell of a lot of stuff off these cars....its frightnening, lol. I'll keep track of this project and document it all with pics n text so it can be useful to others here.

Trouble is Dave with these cars if you rush it always goes tits up n gets soooo frustrating. I want to build up another so I know exactly whats going on and where its at, I just hate it when something doesnt work & I dont know why....especially on the zed. :headvswal

Must also add... This is the first car I've had that I ENJOY, I love it, probs n all. I think we all do these mods because the car is personal....its not just a ride. I would like a lambo etc, but more than that I want to be me, riding around in MY idea of a gr8 car. For the performance and style the Z  is bloody hard to beat. Scoobies n Skylarks may be quick, but the Zed looks bloody fast parked up

Did look at smithy's brakes, will prob end up with em all round. Nearly shat myself the first time the brakes disappeared :wack: Theres a lot to do to these cars to get up around 400 hp. I'm not gonna be too disappointed if I dont make it that far up cos I think the real performance gains are made by ditching all the excess weight. I am looking to buy a 2nd hand cnc mill to make some of my own parts for new project towards the end of 2006. Would like to buy a runner and then take it COMPLETELY to bits then rebuild with just the basics plus some regular mods....no excessive weight. I have been buying different types of Carbon and Kevlar from USA to make some assessments for suitability for this project, but most of the car is made up from reasonable light materials...just too much of it. Stuff like the carbon hoods seem to be a complete waste...the original is only a tad heavier. But when you get the dash off there tons of excess metal, this is where a custom made support frame with some milled aluminium parts would work a treat. You can easily shed 150 kg from this car imho, if your prepared to work aggressively on it I think you can reduce the weight by at least a 1/4 or more, the only problem after that will be controlling traction :wack: I knew there would be more problems, wheres my tool kit :smash:

She's home

I must admit its fun working on the car when you choose to. What I really dont like is working on it when you get probs :headvswal Lucky tho I've only had a leaky rad but have decided to play with the car a bit while doing the rads etc etc. No doubt that my luck will change tho :wack:

Not sure exactly what chip is, was a flea bay item from a guy called Rayaz in Newcastle, it has JWT instructions. It is specific for TT autos. Not fitted yet...not sure wether to get another one from DTA or Greddy just to make sure it suits the car properly. A lot of chips just overfuel period. A m8 of mine has one from this guy too and has had no probs. Its hard to tell whats good these days tho.

The paddle shift got my attention too when I 1st saw it. I wonder if any ones fitted on one here? My only concern is with the car running being aimed at 380/400 bhp - 1. the slushbox might not prove too reliable 2. if it isnt you've added the cost of one of these £650 ish units to the loss of the box if you decide to go manual. Would be nice to get some more info and test material from 300zx owners whove fitted one of these delicious add ons. .......but I still want one!!

My and a mate are doing his 60k service on his zed, stage 3 on engine. 99 front bumper fit n spray and a new rear bumper. Mine getting new koyo rad (old one sprung a leak) + additional oil cooler. Painted throttle cable cover and timing belt covers (was a sod 2 get off), got the lower stainless rad pipes from DTA. getting intercooler pipes in stainless as well. Got chip. Just taken out the alloy rad feed pipes and getting a polish job on them. I think the plenum is staying put...I'm not prepared to mess with it yet, lol. The brake calipers are off...cleaned and repainted blue to suit car. Stainless hoses are going on. Then I want the car to stop properly so will get some coated disks from smithy's (yet to be ordered.) Ive got the underdrive pulley but not the shorter belts to suit yet. Air box is out, will buy apexi or sim filter when rest is back together. Got new front bumper but not painted or fitted yet. Rear following, only trouble is I may have to mod the rear to take my standard pipes, I kinda like 2 x twins out the back. Got new std zx spoiler, fitted it but now dont like it so much, getting a tailgate skin now to replace it. I will be doing quite a few small mods all over, dont want to go mad yet, no doubt I will be tempted to do tons as I go along...but I will resist. Ive found a cool paddle changer for auto's that overrides the auto box to work on the paddles like a manual, you can obviously switch between the 2, it looks fiddly to fit but its interesting!! Will post pics when done, lol

Hi Chunko, I lived in Newtownards, Co Down for 2 years in the ol '90's. Where abouts are you? I would prob get an insurance quote for the car 1st, it will be a group 18. let us know how much it costs. Most of the guys here wont know just how steep the inurance is over in NI......its bloody scarey. When I was there '94-'96 TPFT on a Vauxhall Belmont 1300, clean license, age 30ish etc was over £700. My m8 tried to insure a volvo 740 GL estate, aged 20.....quote was over 2 grand!! I hope its eased off a bit :hyper:

A poem to cheer your day along... Mary had a little skirt With slits right up the sides And everytime she crossed her legs The boys could see her thighs Mary had another skirt With a slit right up the front She never wore that one...

Under drice pulley belts
Just got an under drive pulley for zed. Would I need to change the belts or will the tensioner take up the slack properly. Also with the loss of the weight and balancing effect of the original pulley do I need to look at anything else while I'm messin with it? Cheers Marc
