  17. right, now i get you! sorry matey. Got my wires crossed then :D (no pun intended) Right so via ethernet on dhcp the desktop connects to the internet right? so there's no issue with the connectivity of the router to the net so it must be something wrong with the pc setup. When you stick the card on dhcp does it bring up a list of wireless networks?
  18. So the card you put in the pc is a wireless one?
  19. Hold on a minute, think i must have missed the bit where you mentioned a router lol So the net is adsl or cable? how many ports does the router have on the back? is the laptop plugged in via a wire or via wireless?
  20. and i'm offended by the bunny signature :D lol
  21. dns is for when it has to locate an internet/naming address so you'll want 192.168.1.1 for the laptop, no need for an alternate, the desktop should be blank or if you have to put something in put 127.0.0.1 (Home) hence the sad geek tshirts that say "There's no place like 127.0.0.1" :D
  22. You'll tend to find (from setting up small networks myself) pcs connected together on dhcp will NOT automatically assign addresses. You'll need something like the following setup: 1. Right click "My Computer" locate the bit where you can change the workgroup and call it something like "OURHOUSE" on both of them 2. Now if you want to share your internet and its service pack two just run the network steup wizard on the one you want to share the connection. Usually easier than trying to set it up. 3. Set the ip address of desktop pc to 192.168.1.1, subnet off 255.255.255.0 then on pc two set the ip to 192.168.1.2, subnet to 255.255.255.0 (by right clicking the network connection and selecting properties then selecting the tcpip and click properties) If this doesn't work pm me and i'll send you some screenshots to back it all up
  23. Damn the competition is hotting up now :D
  24. I think i've had a couple of pints of that stuff down the white hart in Ashby :D
