  2. Just got the car back from Jeff with new MOT. In Jeff's words, "it flew through, didn't touch the sides." "You could have taken it to Halfords" Lol :laugh:

  9. Hi All, Just noticed a ticking noise coming from the drivers side front wing area. It's fairly quiet and doesn't start until the engine warms up. It sounds fairly low frequency and a bit "clockwork-like". i'm just thinking of what's changed in that area and all I can think of is that the carbon canister and coolant bottle (although that's the other side) have just been deleted. Any thoughts? Many thanks Nick
  10. Finally got chance to drive the car having got it back from Luke at ZCentre :biggrin: and she's feeling like a very happy machine. Thanks Luke :thumbup1: With the "foundation work" done last month (cambelt, new rad, oil cooler, coilovers etc.) an experienced eye needed to be cast over it. Wheel bearings and were diff checked, compression test done. So oil and plugs were changed, the "mushroom" filter replaced with a Drift induction kit and the "walt disney productions" exhaust swapped out for a shiny Japspeed cat back. Even treated her to a set of SS brake lines. Finally, the new (to me) wheels went on (cheers Ross :thumbup1:) and I am chuffed to bits with the transformation :cool3:
  11. Hi All, I've not got on here in the last couple of weeks but today just went through the weekly regime, really. Car cover off, quick wipe down, check the fluids, followed by a gentle cruise and the obligatory tyre pressure check. All in good working order exept the digital clock however, which declined to come on today. The coilovers are still bedding in but I still think I need to dial them down a little, still a bit too jiggly for my tastes. Oh yeah, also booked her in with Luke at the Z Centre for a good-going-through and a new cat-back exhaust at the end of the month.

  15. Hi Guys, Just picked the zed up after 4 weeks of waiting, worrying and parts buying. The drive back (100 miles) was fine...........however, although I did "baby it" a bit at 60-65 mph and didn't really get above 2500 - 3000 rpm, the Oil Pressure needle never quite got to, what I assume, is the 2 Kg / cm mark (mid point on gauge is 4 and 8 is the max). At idle it was only a 5mm or so above the 0 mark. Using an online converter, this should equate to 25-28ish PSI. The car drove fine, plenty of power, the temp gauge never moved and all seemed to be fine. Does this sound ok or does it need further investigation? Many thanks guys. Nick

  17. Wow. Now that's the picture I'm going to use to set up mine (hope you don't mind). There's a place for "slammed" cars and "battle stance", whatever that actually is and I do get what they're going for. But the sacrifices in use-ability of the car are too much for me and anyway, it turns the cars into "show ponies" and instinctively I always think cars should be used. The thing most forget is that going for "OEM+" is IMO, always the hardest to do and get right. The bottom line is that the setup needs to look right AND work right in all the circumstances you (the owner) have chosen to put it through. But with reference to your car, the old engineering phase fits nicely - "if it looks right, it probably is right!.
  18. Just my "two cents" and a bit of comparison. I ran a S/C'd Monaro LS2 with about 580-600 bhp on 265 rears for about 2 years and rear grip was perfectly acceptable in the wet and the dry. Of course, you did need to be much more careful when it was damp but that goes for Zeds too. The 'Ro was comparable weight-wise to a Zed; probably about 100kg or so heavier. I remember the general consensus was that you didn't need to go to 285 (which involved expensive tubbing) until you were either pushing 650+ bhp (which a fair few of them were) or you were fully committed to track day use of the car
  19. They do look superb and very "factory". I really like that you've not gone mad with the drop. Looks just right. Do you reckon that your ET of 25 works with the 19s (that doesn't seem quite so easy with 18s?) or is it just the right tyres and camber?

  22. Hi Chaps, Can I just run this past some way-more experienced eyes? :bow: Just to see whether I'm working this out right for the Rota Grids (18s) that I was looking at. Working from the standard sizes [Front 16 x 7.5 45mm Offset and Rear 16 x 8.5 35mm Offset] I'm thinking for 18 x 9.0 Fronts with an Offset of 25mm and 18 x 9.5 Rears with an Offset of 22mm would give the following; Front Inner Clearance of +1mm and Outer Position of + 38mm Rear Inner Clearance of -1mm and Outer Position of +26mm IF that does sound right, would the increase of Outer Position warrant any arch rolling / flaring do you reckon? I'm thinking that it wouldn't but hey, I'm still relatively new to zeds. Cheers for the sense-check :thumbup1: Nick
  23. Ayup. Yes, I did see that you'd had a look at the car, Gary pointed me towards your thread. It's been a roller coaster of a month since we got it off the ferry. But we've dug deep and found a fair bit more to do than we bargained for. I did notice the fan noise too. It's annoying, being right by your left lughole but apparently a bit of wd40 should sort it once I get the cover off. Thanks for the encouraging comments. :thumbup1: On balance, I still feel good about the car and I think I was lucky to get it. A couple of hundred miles will soon tell anyway! I am chuffed to hear you thought the engine pulled well. I thought it felt strong but I didn't have much to compare it to, Zed-wise. As for the work done and money invested in it, it's been a stretch. We've probably done in a month what I would have got to in 6-9 months. All I can say is roll-on next week, when I can actually get her home for the first time. :cool3:

I know this thread should probably in the Journals Forum (see, I am learning! ;) ) The last part that we were waiting for has arrived! :dance: and as it's the cambelt tensioner, it's been holding everything else up (radiator etc.) Big shout out to Mr Feeney, you made my day :thumbup1: Work can now start in earnest and, you never know, I might have a working Zed by this time next week :balloon:
