  1. If you go over to the states where smoking in enclosed public spaces has becoming banned, rather than in select areas, then you'll see there's no drop in trade, people just got used it. Bleach has a much nicer smell than stale smoke.
  2. I'm not misunderstanding anything. Personally, I'm happy there'll be a blanket ban in pubs and clubs....but that's because I can't stand the stench and it making me feel ill....I'm not arguing what's fair and what's not at that point.
  3. Bollocks and wankers certainly aren't 4 letter words, so would suggest the former is more than likely the bleeped word.
  4. Technically, it's still not passive as there is no injestion of substance, although I do agree with you to an extent.
  5. Yeah do you? How about the freedom of choice for wanting to go to a pub an not have to breath in other people's bad habbits and coming home stinking of a stale stench. The smokers have had their way for years and the non-smokers have just had to put up with it. As soon as the roles are reversed, everyone's quick to moan. ;) I don't give a toss about the politics behind it and the reasons really. I am looking forward to the ban but that's for my own reasons.
  6. Drink itself isn't passive though.
  7. Fortunately, people don't tend to light bonfires in enclosed spaces. That's actually incorrect.
  8. There's always a flip side. If you like to smoke, then you don't have to go to a pub....? Think about all the non-smokers that have had to put up with it? I'm not having a go, but there's always 2 sides to the argument. :)
  9. No, I drove it loads in the summer. I am in the Southern part of the UK and generally, the weather's not too bad down here. I don't use it in the winter and check the weatherforecast in the summer. Infact we had a great summer down here this year. Hardly any rain at all from early May through to August. So far, seeing nice sunny warm days forecast in the summer months, rarely means the onset of floods.
  10. I agree with that too to an extent. Which is generally why I find the social scene in the UK as crap and cultureless. It's all about seeing how wasted you can get. Go over to parts of mainland Europe and even parts of the states and it's such a different atmosphere, everything’s more relaxed, it’s not about drinking as much as you possibly can. As soon as you step onto UK soil all you see at nights are uncontrollable piss heads stumbling around, throwing up, causing a mess. I know that's generalising a bit, but the whole ethos of socialising and binge drinking culture over here is pretty gross.
  11. I'd never agree to an outright ban, but believe a ban in enclosed public areas can only be of benefit. I don't want a complete ban on smoking because the sale of tobacco earns the exchequer millions of pounds in revenue through its high taxation. I'm more than happy for people to carry on paying to kill themselves if it saves some money from my wage packet.
  12. Certainly ain't signing that!
  13. I never even take mine out in the wet, so no problems for me.
  14. Not undecided at all. US is a long term thing. South Coast relocation should be happening in the new year. Got a few things in the pipeline.
  15. Cheers Danny. Sounds about right, I do recall a lot of that now. I've just asked for any contact details for our US HR department in Alabama. We'll see what happens. Worth a shot I guess.
  16. So, how do I go about applying for one? I was always under the impression that the company sorted that out. Since it's an internal posting....I don't know. I did some research a while back, but I've lost all the information I hate. Unfortunately, time is of the essence with this position, but there's another opening working out of the office in the Gulf coast. The West Coast manager up in Portland (Oregon) has suggested I put in for that one.
  17. Nope, I am squeeky clean. I have still a valid entry visa C1/D(maritime)....although this doesn't help my cause, it's proof that I have no problems with aquiring one.
  18. Ok, so I've applied for a transfer to our San Francisco office as there is a position going there after visiting the office in Long Beach back in the summer. I am hunting for information with regards the red tape surrounding immigration and work permits within the US as my company have gotten back to me requesting I follow up this with the posibility of transfering over to the US sometime in the not too distant future. I know the US immigration and work visa systems are some of the most complex in the world and currently, I don't know where to begin. I've found a few sites, but really want something in layman's terms rather than the techno jargon that I have no idea about. This is just follow up work at the moment. But the transfer is a posibility if I can get round the visa requirements. I'll probably fall foul of them, but just need some info.
