  1. Not technically true. The DAF variomatic transmission is actually the basis for the Ford/Fiat CVT system of the mid 90's. (CVT being continuously variable transmission). Was offered on Fiestas and Puntos I believe. I have driven one and it's very strange. No sense of gearchange as you would in a conventional way. Just a continuous hum. I could imagine it sounds more akin to that of an electric car.
  2. Yeah, similar effort levals to that of the construction of the millenium dome....doesn't mean to say it's actually any good!
  3. Mate, it's a pink BMW with metal fins welded on the side of it... :smw:
  4. Rubbing one side won't effect the origins of the rust though. So rubbing down and applying rust treatment on metal that has tin worm behind it isn't solving the issue. But as to your own admittance, you might as well do it right and not have to do it again. Good luck mate. :)
  5. I think they were made of something called 'Duraplasty' or something along those lines?
  6. I've been in a Trabant. Early ones were made of a form of papier-mâché weren't they? Think the newer ones were made of a nasty cheap plastic. Most of my family are Hungarian and one of my uncles over there used to have one. Now drives an E-Class! LOL......that's communism for you!
  7. MJP and price depends on what you need. IMHO, save the cash and get it done by a competant bodyshop. Not discounting your ability, obviously it's good to try things, but make sure you use decent seam sealers/waxoils and weld the panel in the correct way so as not to promote further corrosion.
  8. I still don't buy it though. Only at speed will that theory work. When the car is stationary/slow moving traffic, it'll be detrimental surely.
  9. Then expect it to come back again quickly. Rust is like cancer. Needs chopping out. Especially round the arches as it rusts from the inside.
  10. America?? WTF? Think you'll find that's Germany mate, not the US. If you actually head to the US forums, you'll see they have zero tollerance for nasty bodykits and gross paint jobs. Very purist over there.
  11. Well, the fans don't work all the time, if you're fitting an enclosure over the top of the rad, then you're trapping air in. Also, there will be heat at the top of the rad which will be trapped if you've blanking the top of the slam panel with wood. I fear you'll keep more heat in that actually expel it. The fans only cool the centre part of the rad. Fair enough I understand that you're trying to keep heat out of the engine, but by covering up the radiator with wood, will lessen then effect of the radiator cooling. So whilst you're cancelling one thing out, you're drawing an issue to another. The fans have shrouds round them as well, so they blow directly to the radiator. They'll force the hot air out. But the hot air now has less space to move. IMHO, giving the rad space to breath is just as important. I dunno, maybe what I am saying is incorrect. But personally don't think it's a very good idea.
  12. Fans are in their own enclosure though. You need some ventilation there as heat rises?
  13. I am going to scrutinise the write-up that's going into Japanese Performance. I have it on good authority from the editor. hehe
  14. I just think you need to haul ass and find a nice evening with setting sun levels and get out and take some arty farty shots. Your car's is very photogenic due to the colour and styling.
  15. Not been for very long though. Nothing serious at the moment as I can't be arsed with anything serious right now! LOL Nice though. She's a part time model. :)
  16. That's news to me!
  17. Dude, my Mum's 54, do you seriously think she'd have a body like that?
  18. Seen this error quite a few times. Some advise on a 6.5 second run to 60 and others almost a second quicker. No one seems to know! LOL Personally think it can't be 6.5 to 60 as that's only 0.7 seconds quicker than an Astra GTE 16v! LOL
  19. PPS....are they a second out on the 0-60 figure?
  20. PS....fitting those new rims to the car has totally transformed it. Looks absolutely stunning now. Never felt the old rims were all that flattering to it, but these current ones are absolutely perfect. :D
  21. Excellent! Nice pic of Tim's motor there! Is the writeup good though? Can't read the text.
  22. ....must have been rear engined then judging by lack of radiator grille. Nasty rattly prehistoric air cooled lump I'd imagine.
  23. LOL! Nice one! I have an old Osborne book from the 60s and 70s with obsolete manufacturers in there like NSU, Hillman, Triumph etc.
  24. Came across this site earlier whilst hunting for V8 transplanted E30s of all things. http://www.pitstop.zp.ua/photo/ In total bewilderment at some of these....uploaded to the barryboys server incase you're puzzled at the URLs BMW E30 BMW E34 Toyota Celica One for Stellaz!!! Not entirely sure what this one is....thinking either Lada Riva Estate or some kind of Zastava? VW Golf This I am utterly clueless on....Warburg? Some kind if Polski Fiat? Couple of Ladas Topless/Shunter, EAT YOUR HEART OUT!
