  1. With the cap off it was pulsing oil vapour which points directly to shagged rings. Especially with what else went on with it. Thanks Dave, yeah, would be nice if you had the number. They'll probably cost a ruddy fortune though. Cheers Si
  2. I know it does. If I can get someone local to the place to get a compression test done on it, then I'll most likely have it.
  3. I'm sure you've read that I have a very poorly Zed. Bit of a long-shot , but can someone do me a mahoooosive favour? Found an engine for my shagged car. BUT, before I commit to buying it, I need a compression test done on it. Is anyone willing and able to help me out? Would be very very grateful. Thanks Si :)
  4. Don't happen to have a spare engine in amoungst that lot do ya?
  5. ...poor thing was absolutely filthy when I got back. Jet wash had shut by the time I'd gotten back home. So racing home tonight to get it out of the garage to do it.
  6. Pearl white? Was probably me.
  7. Thanks Vin. Just don't wanna buy a lemon, hope it's a good one. :(
  8. I'll be going providing my car's got its engine rebuilt. :)
  9. Get lighter tints in all side windows. Having tings in the rear quarter windows only looks really crap. So I'd either rip them out or just get a light tint for the two side windows using the same tint for the two rear quarter windows.
  10. ...which is why I am hoping my block will be ok for just a rehone....+new rings.
  11. Rebore equates to new pistons. I am just hoping my block will need a rehone and a new set of rings. I don't want to make it go faster. Just want an OE spec engine with a slight boost increase.
  12. Well, I can just hope that the bores are ok. It didn't burn hardly any oil on a 200 mile round trip I did today, nor does it smoke unless under load which it doesn't do much of. Just on start up mainly as the oil being pumped up between ring and bore has collected in the inlet. I would love to rebuild mine just as long as I knew it didn't need a rebore.
  13. It's the logistics of it all. Can't just leave a car at someone's workshop while I 'try' and source a good engine if mine's fooked. That's the crucks of it all. :(
  14. Cheers guys. Just worried about it all. I don't know whether to strip mine and rehone the bores fitting new rings, as I have no idea what the block is like. It still runs really well, so maybe the bore walls are fine and it's just the rings that are on their way. :(

I can see where they are coming from, but it's an over reaction of the highest order. It was a cartoon ffs, nothing more, nothing less. BIG DEAL! GET OVER IT! Their reaction astounds me. Why they say 'down with the BBC', I'll have no idea.
  16. To say I'm gutted is an understatement. After having yet another clutch fitted as the one fitted previously was not done in its entirety, had a new prop shaft bearing, main seal, gearbox and diff oil...thanks to SouthWestZeds all runs very well. Lovely job Jason!! Did a compression test on the cylinders to try and find what all the oil problems were. Yes. 2 of the cylinders were very low, one was reading 60PSi (dry). It's surprising the car still runs at all, but it does and still very very smoothly. Oil cap off and vapor escaping. So it's well and truly shafted. Devastated really. I love my zed to bits, treat it with so much care, rarely used the power and this happens....it sucks as people that use their zed's power lots live with a faultless car for years. So, it's new engine time. I just don't want another lemon as the car will be sold for spares and repair. :( So if anyone has a decent engine (bare block and heads)....no need for turbos or any ancillaries, then I'd be grateful if you could let me now. Thanks. :( PS, big thanks to SouthWestZeds for the work they’ve already done, very good friendly service. Although they are not forum traders, I'd recommend them to everyone.
  17. Mmmmm, undecided. They are a nice rim though, just not 100% sure on their suitability on a Zed.
  18. 'Cav' as in Cavalier and Irmscher being the RS Equivalent for Vauxhall. ;) Does look nice Chewie, rarely have I seen badging that looks good on the Zed other than the standard stuff. Looks very nice and slick. Good taste as always bud. :)
  19. Cool, did you get the gearbox oil changed while it was off?
  20. Well, best keep positive, it still drove very well before and no doubt with Jason's expert hands, it'll come back suuppppperrrrrrr smooth. :) He did say that it's one of the cleanest Zeds he'd ever seen which brought a huge smile to my face and asked if I cleaned it every day when he said he thought it was immaculate. :D 'Apparently', it looks like brand new underneath. :D Anyway, a progress shot...first time I've had work done on the Zed.
  21. The man's got taste. Yes, Hornblower series was excellent. Also, both being entirely different, I am a major Palin fan and always love watching his travel series. I am a travel geek myself and love to watch him. Also, 'Grand Designs' is another program I love, usually bullied to the corner by the shite, that is 'big brother' which I loath more than liver.
  22. Try these guys... http://www.southcoastwheels.co.uk
  23. Thank god someone bought it! Looks like it's gone to a good home too.
  24. ....also Greg, it runs no differently to when you were in it with PJ.
  25. Cheers Greg....I hope so too. Doesn't explain the oil cap off vapour though. We'll have to wait and see. I am replacing all PCV pipes too.
