  1. Haha sort of bantam. I've been driving the skyline in the British Drift Championship all season. I've left my Rx7 in the garage for a year since blowing the engine as I knew I'd smash it up if I drifted it. I'm now building the/an Rx7 to compete in next year. I'm not getting rid of the skyline though as its a really good and tested car that I know I can rely on, it'll just be a back up for next season so its not so stressful if I break the Rx7 just before a round. I had a few all nighters fixing the skyline before events and I can't be arsed with the hassle next year, just want to have a backup car available.
  2. Hello mate, yeah its a bit far but the train journey to London is the same. How did the engine build go? things were a bit rocky at home at the time for me so couldn't get the time (hence me moving and being single now!).
  3. Hello ! Look what I've been doing this year! Funkysi text'd me. I live near Milton Keynes now, work in London. Hope everyone is well, SdR is bringing his Zed drifting at a comp in Kent on the weekend of Nov 22/3 if anyone fancies coming along for some fun. We can sort passenger rides out and stuff :D
  4. Get yourself on an airfield type day mate. Track is not the place to learn about basic car control, you'll risk breaking your car, yourself or others. Andrew Walsh does some excellent days which are really good fun as well. http://www.carlimits.com/ John Lyon is one of the best drivers and instructors out there. To start with he emphasises road craft driving and then goes onto dynamics like at the airfield days. He's pricey but well worth while. He doesn't pull any punches with his instructing so be warned! http://www.john-lyon.co.uk/ The other very good option where you'll probably get the most time in the seat is the Drift What You Brung DWYB days at Santa Pod. They are very relaxed and geared to complete beginners with free instruction. The Zed engine isn't ideal though, so make sure your cooling is good (!).
  5. Rear quarters work out very expensive mate. On my skyline they were about £300 or more for the bit and then about £1500 for the repair work and that was just one side! The insurance company will probably deem it an uneconomical repair (if thats what you're going for). You have to cut all the spot welds, weld the new quarter on and then do a full rear respray, etc. I've recently reshelled the whole car because it was easier than doing the rear quarter! (had some other reasons but you get the gist!). All the other bits you can easily get from the traders here or through breakers such as 24/7.
  6. Had a cracking round 3 in Norfolk! Came third (out of thirty odd) in qualifying and went through to the quarter finals! not sure of my overall place yet but it was somewhere between 5th and 8th. So happy with it. The championship is really taking off, their were some big crowds filling up the stadium stands. I've just rebuilt the skybus in a new shell with cage over the last 3 weekends and only finished getting it together at 1630hrs on friday afternoon! just enough time to get it tracked . Although I missed the practice session on friday, still managed to get another days practice on sunday. Felt good to have built it myself and do well. Knackered though, I wouldn't want to take months over it! the Rex is next on the list now. Back up to Teeside on the weekend of the 21st for the next round. Would be good to see some Zeds there? ;)
  7. :worthy: looks amazing from the rear
  8. Yeah, stick some pictures up mate! it really stood out on the m25. Looked awesome.
  9. Looking every inch the super car. Very tasty M reg wide arch. I drove by in my drift skyline and waved before turning off at the Caterham junction.
  10. Round 2 this weekend at Llandow was absolutely awesome! The driving seems to have really jumped up a level in only the month since round 1. Loads of spectators as well which was really good to see. I got 13th (12th?) out of 30 so creeping up the scores. Hopefully I can get into the qualifying top 8 with a bit more consistancy. I snapped a handbrake cable and didn't realise until after messing up my 2nd and 3rd runs on the first entry so I got 13th with only one decent judged run, gives me hope that I can make the top 8 if I get a couple of good runs. The winner of Pro-am class was Mike from http://www.trampdrift.com ! It was awesome seeing an underdog in a trashed sub £1k BMW e30 (albeit with a decent size engine upgrade!) do battle with Shane Lynch in £80k s worth of skyline!!! In the twin rounds the skyline went into the side of the e30 mid drift, they both transitioned around for the next corner and the e30 did the same to the skyline! I can't wait to see some vids of it. Got a great phot of me smoking it up in 3rd on the big corner :)
  11. No worries mate, I was pretty preoccupied myself, then the crazy rain came!

Here's a trailor vid of round 1: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mCsnOmI199Q&eurl=http://www.driftworks.com/forum/british-drift-championship/55281-round-one-dvd-trailer.html
  14. I'm in a black skyline now, the s13 was falling to bits after too much abuse and bouncing off of things! Here's a little vid taken from my car this week on its first outing :)
  15. Nice one mate, the Scotts all have a bit of a mission for the events Until recently the only licencing events were in the South! they are doing some Teeside one at the mo.
  16. Very nice! I was watching one at Barkston Heath a few months back. He was having a ball and very consistant.
  17. Hello strangers! Every so often Zeds get brought up on driftworks and people discuss the merits of drifting them. Personally I don't think TTs are ideal for hard regular track work purely from a money point of view, and having owned three TTs that I tracked a little bit. The NA ones though would be a lot more practical. They are just as fast on anything twisty thats under 60mph and much easier to maintain. I remember at Brunters a couple of years back and slick Pete was one of the fastest in his stripped NA, compared to 300-400bhp TTs. One thing that most people who havn't drift don't really realise is that you don't need much power to drift. I learnt in a 140bhp bimmer 318IS and it was more than enough poke; you learn to use the weight of the car instead of big manfoot oversteers. Anyhows, to get to the point, there must be someone out there with a half decent (perhaps stripped out?) NA that fancies a bit of drifting? All you need is some spare wheels and some (free) part worn tyres. Obviously lowered/coilovers etc would be handy but certainly not needed. There are plenty of beginner practice days that are on wide open spaces with cones; Santa Pod,etc. Just thought I'd post it up as I spent so many years enjoying Zeds and would like someone to prove if they are any good for drifting. Also I always remember slagging wozzer in his NA because he was slow ;) so its about time some NA owners proved otherwise
  18. Really sorry to hear the terrible news :( Here's the picture. I'm not a photoshop wizz but its not to bad.
  19. I've done a day at Castle Combe and an airfield day where a Mitsi Gallant Vr4 estate thingy was the fastest car there. That was including skylines, Zeds, etc. Very good cars, 300bhp I believe? 4wd is gay though IMO :)
  20. You're welcome... did I mention that I drive naked?
  21. Nice one, I've seen the skylineparts cars at the last couple of events. I'm driving the black s13 in the picture above. Here's another :) Are you going to round 1 of bdc in march? hopefully meet up?
  22. Not sure mate? the name rings a bell. I havn't been at it that long and I'm rubbish with names! whats his username on Driftworks?
