  1. Perhaps he found the bit around firing the spark plug into the bin amusing? Anyway... that article seems to suggest that the PFR6B-11C has been discontinued but clearly it hasn't (can see them on eBay) yet the PFR6B-11B doesn't appear to be around (earlier comment about not being available in the UK perhaps being true!) so I guess it's PFR6B-11C for me then and a new 16mm spark plug wrench :) Cheers guys!
  2. I'll have a look for the 11C then... But I think you can get the B in the UK, or at least from eBay... Thought I saw some... Do happen to know what size wrench I need?
  3. Hi Thinking of replacing my 1992 UK 300ZX twin turbo's spark plugs; firstly, what sized spark plug wrench do I need - 14mm? Think I only have a 10mm one at the moment... Secondly, which plugs should I use? Looking around it seems NGK PFR6B-11 are recommended for a standard TT but NGK PFR6B-11B are better for a 'modified' TT. Mine has the 70+bhp EPROM upgrade and Apexi air filter, no other engine mods... so am I better off with the B? I see they're different lengths though... Cheers Ross
  4. Hi all I have some hesitation/stumble issues with my TT and have been going through the checklist of known causes. I've just done the coolant temp sensor test at: http://www.300zx.net.nz/articles/MainLib/HowTos/heasitation/whencold.htm Supposedly the voltage of the temp sensor is supposed to start at 5V and gradually go down to 0V as it gets warmer. Here's my results: Cold start: 3.9V 4 mins later: 2.3V 6 mins: 1.9V 10 mins: 1.25V 16 mins: 1.24V 20 mins: 1.2V Note that the temperature outside today (East Midlands, UK) is about 8-10C. Now to me, that starts off a little low and doesn't come down enough - could this be the cause of my problems - do I need a new temp sensor? Thanks Ross
  5. I've not had a go at those bolts yet... there was another one further back on the guard/tray that was rusted to hell, had a bit of an attempt but left it for now... to be honest I'm tempted to get the local garage to do it, he's pretty cheap and reliable - it's only parts that would be pricey and Baz has sorted me out there - I just don't have the spare time at the mo. Saying that, if I find a spare hour or two on Sunday I may have a quick crack at it :hammer:
  6. Rust is a terrible terrible disease :(
  7. Nope, think it was just the previous owners comments, the weird 3 part block, and the wiring nightmare I had with another car that put me in panic mode! One of the easiest dashboard panels to remove I've come across too :)
  8. Piece of pi** - new stereo came today, plugged straight in, hurrah! Thanks all!
  9. Ok I would send a message if I could work out how to :confused1: Baz, can you drop me an email please? It's mrrossi@gmail.com - ta!
  10. Ok guys I've managed to get the wheel off (damn silly aftermarket alloys witn non-standard size bolts grrr) and can confirm that it's definitely the fuel filler neck that's the problem. After removing the first guard I could see the guard underneath the neck/pipe was absolutely full of wet mud, coating the neck - probably helped rot it! Scraped all the mud out and I can see that the pipe is in a very bad way and that's where my leak is. I've done some photos with labels so anyone else with this problem can easily see. Wheel and first guard off: Can see the fuel filler neck location here: And where the mud was: Baz, will send you a message :) Cheers Ross
  11. Thanks Baz, mines a '92 UK model with a fair bit of corrosion I'm afraid to say! I believe I need to get the wheel off and remove a guard and then I can see? I'll try and get a look tomorrow but have a hectic day, might not be til Tuesday.
  12. Thanks Vijay, so what part exactly is it/what would you call it - fuel filler pipe/hose? I already did a search for 'fuel leak' and read a number of posts but couldn't find anything particularly helpful... I'll have another search but if you have a key phrase/term I could look for / point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated :) Cheers!
  13. Hi I've only had my TT for 3 weeks and have been having a stumble/hesitation issue (which I know can be many things, but fuel pressure is one) and the MPG has been worse than I expected... came out this morning to the car and smelt petrol! Looked at the back and could see a few dribbles of fuel on the exhaust but mainly above and to the side; looking through the wheel arch under the petrol tank door flap it looks like it could be around that area; possibly the filler pipe going into the tank? Is this a common/known issue? Hadn't noticed the fuel leak in the last 3 weeks but had just filled her to the brim the night before AND she's parked slightly up hill at an angle so petrol would literally be leaning this way, so that may be why it's not leaked before! Any suggestions/things to check/quick fixes? Or am I better of getting her to the garage ASAP for them to sort it?? I'm not particularly mechanic, I've fiddled around in the engine bay with spark plugs and the like before but fiddling near a fuel tank terrifies me....!! Cheers Rossi
  14. I had another look last night and traced the wires from the top block; all but one (which I assume was a shared earth - went to the lower blocks) went to a funny looking connector - that didn't plug into anything. So it seems if I have trailing ISO connectors on the new stereo - which, it seems most do; manufacturers seem to have their own connector on the back and then their own cable plugged in with the two ISO 8 pin blocks - then I can just plug it straight in :) If the ISO connections are on the back of the stereo then I'll have to snap the block up, which looks like I could do with a sharp knife; it's only thin bits of plastic keeping them together. I just thought it wasn't going to be that easier as when I asked the seller why he hadn't changed the stereo (he'd owned the car 9 years) he said he'd took one look and the wiring was a complete jumble/mess and decided against it. Looks ok to me!
  15. Great stuff... thanks Mark... I may be in touch! I'll order a new stereo over the next few days and see how I get on, may give you a call if you're only in Derby I can perhaps pop over - I live in Nottingham but I'm away half the week working in north Wales...
  16. mmmm thanks guys... well, I'd be replacing with a modern stereo, not another old :) I was trying to avoid wiring/splicing - I can do it - I just hate it, seem to take ages at it - and time isn't something I have lots of :( I could try snapping off the top bit and plugging into a new stereo!! :)
  17. Thanks for the replies guys. Mark - thanks, but - are you sure that's a Sony one? I've searched Google images and the Sony ones I can see look like the normal 2 x 8 pin blocks; they don't have that other bit on top. Similarly I searched for 'Sony head unit rear' and the connections on the back don't look like that. Else I'd just buy myself a Sony unit so I could plug it straight in! Just tried searching for Blaupunkt head unit images too but the only ones I'm seeing are old ones... The only images I've seen that look similar are the connectors on steering wheel/remote control units! Erm... that's not what I'm after. Thanks Tomo... yeah I was avoiding red ones for that reason but red does suit the car (although I get the impression from this forum that 'black ones are faster' !) and basically got it a grand or more cheaper as the seller figured it'd need a respray - but he hadn't even tried t-cut! I actually swapped it! Great deal... I was selling a somewhat modified Mk1 MX-5 and he was after one... mine was up for £2750 - which I wasn't sure I'd get, hard to value; and he was asking £2600 for his (due to the bodywork/paint etc) - so we just did a straight swap!!
  18. Hi! This is my first post on the forum... I picked up (what I *think* was a bargain) 1992 UK 300ZX twin turbo a couple of weeks ago, from reading some threads I believe pics are 'the law' so will put some up :) She's got a few mods, Japanese front bumper, 99 spec rear lights and aftermarket spoiler, Apexi air filter, larger exhaust and EPROM +70 bhp chip. There's a few rusty bits and the red paintwork is terribly faded on a few panels, but already had a quick go with t-cut (or rather Turtle Wax's 'safe cut'!) and it's coming back nicely already - will put some more pics up when she's all sorted! First, some pics of her now... Secondly... some questions about the radio. There's a Blaupunkt Werke Pasadena DJ cassette stereo, serial number BP5781S3765504, and another number on it, 7645781010. It *just* about works; the LCD display is dead though but after fiddling a bit I've got it to tune in with my radio transmitting MP3 player. But ideally I'd like to replace it. Took her out and seems like a non standard connector block - please see the pics below. The bottom two 8 pin blocks look like normal ISO connectors but they're all stuck together with that other bit on top and obviously wouldn't fit a standard ISO stereo. I can go down the route of getting an ISO connector and rewiring it but was trying to avoid that pain; does anyone recognise the type of connector and know if I can get a simple plug & play adaptor? :confused1: I also have a 'hesitation/stumbling' issue when cold; there's loads of threads about this though so will work through them first before asking any silly 'newbie' questions :whistling: Cheers Rossi
